LEADERSHIP IN THE SHEEPFOLD (3)- FAITHFULNESS TO YOUR WIFE

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Tim.3:1-7

More Scriptures: Heb.13:4, Mal.2:14, Jn.10:13

A leader must be………committed to his wife…….(1Tim.3:1-2)MSG

As the husband to your wife, do you understand the worth of what you said to your wife before God and the congregation that you will be faithful to her? And do you know how much importance God places on marital commitment? If you don’t, I encourage you to read the epistle again. The words you said before your wife on your wedding day were not just ordinary words. Those words are witnesses against you and God heard it clearly and He expects you to uphold it with all your life. But what is commitment and how committed are you to your wife? Commitment also means faithfulness. It means loyalty. So, the question that tests your godly leadership is this. Have you been faithful to your wife? You cannot cheat on your wife and think that you are committed to her. You may have provided her with money, vacations, expensive dresses and jewelries, cars and so many good things of life. But if you keep extramarital affairs or indulge in sex outside your wife, you are an unfaithful leader.

This is what the Scriptures say. Marriage is honourable in all and the bed undefiled, but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge (Heb.13:4). God is displeased with every leader who is not committed to his wife, especially with his body. The word of God says that God will judge every adulterer, hence, you must make a turnaround today to stop those adulterous relationships that you have and renew your loyalty to your wife. It is the most rewarding life you can have as the godly man, husband and father. You do not get eternal values for being disloyal and unfaithful to your wife. You must also understand that no matter the unpleasant circumstances around your relationship with your wife and even if she is the cause of your unhappiness, it still does not justify your unfaithful action.

But what does it take to be committed to your wife as her husband? It takes the Spirit of the fear of God. That is having a holy reverence and respect for His word. And it is one of the Spirits of Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husband. Reading through Isaiah chapter 11 verses 1-4, the fear of God is mentioned as the life of Christ. If you have respect and honour for God who made you the head of the family, you will honour Him with your body by staying away from adultery. So, pray for the Spirit of the fear of God to dwell richly in you. Secondly, you must continue to see your wife as a significant part of your life and that you will serve and honour her as Christ has honoured God. To that extent you will do to her what you expect her to do to you. Your commitment to the marriage vow is the hallmark of the good and godly husband.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, I ask You to forgive me for engaging in sexual relationships outside my wife.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, I ask for Your mercy to prevail over my life for my adulterous acts.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the Spirit of the fear of God and empower me to be faithful and loyal to my wife.

FAITH CONFESSION

I receive the Spirit of the fear of the God and by it I remain committed to my wife because that is what makes me the good and godly husband to my sheep in Jesus Name. Amen.

Wow!! This devotional came at the right time. My wife and I had an argument 2 days ago and we’re not in speaking terms. We haven’t been intimate in weeks and the thought of looking for someone else to fulfill my desires crossed my mind. I’m so thankful that I read this tonight and reminded myself of the vows I said on our wedding day.
