Main Scriptures: 2Cor. 10:17-18
More Scriptures: Gen.18:19, Job 1:8, Matt.17:5
A lot of the time as husbands, we tend to want to seek the commendation of man rather than God. We work to attract the approval of man as against seeking the approval of God, Who made us husbands. As the head of your family and the spiritual leader in your home, you must understand that you have a Master-Jesus. You are accountable to Him. His approval and commendation is more valuable than the applause of men. This is why the Scripture tells us in 2Cor.10:18 that for not he that commendeth himself is approved but whom the Lord commendeth. It is foolishness to commend yourself. It is wisdom to secure the approval and commendation of God. His approval comes with peace and quietness. It also comes with rest.
God is the One who scores your report of how you relate with your wife and children. He made you the head of the family in the first place. He ordained you to lead your flock as their shepherd. So, you live your life to please Him and to receive His approval. But what are some of the hindrances to receiving the approval and commendation of God? Firstly, it is tradition. This includes the tradition of men, culture or even denomination. Some husbands would rather follow traditions to please their parents or friends than to obey the commandments of the Lord, Jesus Christ. When you ask some husbands why they treat their flock as slaves, they would tell you that it is their tradition. Some will even tell you that that is how their fathers treated their mothers. You must be careful as a husband not to be ruled by the rudiments of this world. It does not bring lasting peace to you or to your flock. Only the approval of God does.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to obey Your word above the tradition of men.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from pride and arrogance.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of boldness and faith.
FAITH CONFESSION
I seek to please God in all things because His commendation is what validates my position as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
