THE ENTITLED HUSBAND (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Php.2:5-10

More Scriptures: 1Cor.13:5, Gal.5:26, Rom.12:10

Having understood that entitlement mentality is the gateway to compromise and frustration in leadership, it is important for every husband to willingly, joyfully and deliberately engage himself in service and in promoting the well-being of his sheep. But how do I move away from an entitled mentality to a servant mentality? The first thing you must do is to see yourself from the position of Jesus Christ, the Perfect example of a good and godly husband. The word of God says that as he is, so are we in the world. What this means for you is taking the position of Jesus in your family fold-doing exactly what Jesus would do were He to be physically in the situation you find yourself. For instance, He washed the disciples’ feet and served them even though no one thanked Him. He delivered the woman caught in the very act of adultery from self-condemnation. He fed over 5,000 persons without thinking that He deserved a pat on the back from those He fed. In fact, He fed another 3,000 persons.

Secondly, you must continue to renew your mind by engaging the truth of the word of God. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of the God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove that which is good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Rom.12:1-2). As a husband who wants to be good and godly, the word of God is the cure to the struggles of the flesh. It infuses inside you the Spirit of Christ that is able to build you into a good steward to your wife and children. Therefore, see every service you render to your flock as an opportunity to showcase the life of Jesus. Be inspired by what God will do in the lives of your flock through you and let it be your motivation for life.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every deception of the devil.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, impart me with the spirit of servanthood.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live above the influences of the flesh.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a servant of God to serve my wife and children as Jesus serves the Church because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
