THE ENTITLED HUSBAND (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Php.2:5-10

More Scriptures: Col.1:15, Jn.10:18, Heb.1:3

Being a husband and the head of your family is not one of entitlement but that of responsibility. So, whatever you do as a man, husband and father in the direction of your flock is a call to service. You are not doing them a favour rather you are doing what God has commanded you to do. This is very important so that you can appreciate the role God has ordained for you as a shepherd and enjoy the platform He has provided for you to lead your wife and children. Yes, you work so hard to live above board as a husband but it seems your flock do not recognize all your good works. You think you deserve to be appreciated and commended for a job well done. And when you don’t get the right feedback from your flock, you become angry, unhappy and frustrated. That is the wrong attitude you must shift away from it.

Your responsibility as the head of your family and whatever you do to your flock is not to please your wife and children but God. This is why the word of God tells us that whatever we do must be done as unto the Lord. So, He is the only person whose commendation you must desire much more than that of your flock. The Scripture says this about Jesus Christ, as it relates with how much the bride had disappointed Him. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. In another breadth, the word of God says that Jesus despised the shame and went to the Cross so that you and I can be reconciled back to God. Don’t boast that you are providing for your family. Don’t boast that you are interceding for your wife and children. Don’t threaten your wife and children that you will stop being a husband and father to them. May I shock you? Don’t expect  gratification from your flock for doing your job.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every deception of the devil.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, impart me with the spirit of servanthood.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live above the influences of the flesh.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a servant of God to serve my wife and children as Jesus serves the Church because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
