Yesterday, our Teacher, the Person of the Holy Spirit, helped us (husbands) to appreciate our sheep and sheepfold. He helped to change our mentality from that of ingratitude to gratitude of our wives and children. Today, let us look at how we as spiritual leaders can extract the goodness that God has put inside of our sheep. So, you may ask, how do I bring out the goodness that God has deposited in my wife and children? The answer is found in verse 5 of our main text for today. It says for it is sanctified by the WORD OF GOD and PRAYERS. (1Tim.4:5b) From this Scripture, two things are required by God from you if you want to see the value in your wife and children. The first is the word of God. And the second is prayers. God’s word is the weapon you can use to redesign the lives of your sheep and not the rudiments and principles of the world. This is why the Bible says that the Word of God is a lamp unto his feet and a light unto his path. (Ps.119:105). You can light up the dark sides of your wife and children with the power in the word of God. You can teach your sheep from the Word of God the right way to go.
As a shepherd, you must appreciate that the world and television cannot bring out the good in your sheep. Only the word of God that is applied can bring out the best out of your wife and children Have you wondered what has become of the sheep in this generation- disobedient, unruly, disrespectful, rebellious and disloyal? The second strategy that God provides for you as the head of the family, through the Person of the Holy Spirit, to help you bring out the best out of your sheep is by prayers. It is not enough to sanctify your wife and children by the word of God, you must pray those words into their lives. I have remarked that whatever you don’t pray for, you are not qualify to access. Your wife and children will not just turn out to be good and godly. They must be greatly influenced by you through the weapon of effective prayers. The Bible has this to say about the power of intercession. My little children, of whom I travail (pray) in birth again UNTIL CHRIST BE FORMED IN YOU (Gal.4:19). As the head of the family and spiritual leader of your family fold, you must continue to travail in prayers for your wife and children until the nature and attitudes of Christ be formed in them. When you work to get the goodness out of your wife and children, you become a good minister of Jesus Christ. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a GOOD MINISTER OF JESUS CHRIST, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained (1Tim.4:6).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me not give up on my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, set my knees on fire for the enforcement of Your goodness in the lives of my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, save me from every trap of weariness and doubt. Fill me with faith and boldness
