LOVE GIVES (2)

Yesterday by the grace of God, the Holy Spirit laid the foundation for the need for every shepherd who wants to become the good and godly shepherd to his wife and children. The Person of the Holy Spirit encouraged you and I to love our sheep deeply and sacrificially because that is how Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband, has loved the church. Today, let us go further. The proof that you love your wife and children is when you give to them. You don’t just love your flock in words, you also show it by allowing something positive and gracious to leave you to them. Jesus Christ is the perfect example of a good and godly husband demonstrated this truth all through His journey on earth, where He gave to His sheep His time, finances, guidance, direction, protection, mercy, kindness, compassion and so much more. In Eph.5:22-25, the Bible equated your relationship with your wife and children with Jesus’s relationship with the Church, when He said that husbands should love their wives as Christ loves the church. So, if you want to understand the extent to which Jesus Christ loves the bride, you must consider what He did. In verse 25 of Eph.5, the Scripture says, …..even as Christ also loved the church and GAVE HIMSELF TO IT. Until you are a giver first to your flock, you don’t love them. In Jn.3:16, the Bible says, for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…….. The only way God can prove to the world that He loves humanity is by giving His only begotten Son. Not just giving anything, but something very special.

The question to you is this, what do you give or given to your sheep? Firstly, you give them spiritual food. This means teaching them the way and life of Jesus Christ and helping them to develop good and godly values. In Deut.6:7, the word of God says, and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thin house, and when thou walkest by the way and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. As a husband and the head of the family, God has provided you the greatest platform to influence your wife and children for Him and good. You must therefore take advantage of every opportunity to teach them the word of God. Please note that when you teach your flock, you are giving them from what you have known of the word of God. So, you have the responsibility to give attention to study the Bible for yourself, think through the word of God, believe what you have read and act on them. This also demands that you give yourself to prayer. This is so important because the spiritual well being of your sheep is more important than anything else. God wants your sheep to prosper firstly in their spirit so that they can manifest His fullness in all areas of life.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, reveal to me the power and personality of love.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, take me deeper in love with You and cause me to reflect it to my wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every trap of hatred and bitterness towards my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

The spirit of love is spread abroad in my heart and I extend same to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
