GODLY HUSBANDS ARE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.3:1-12

More Scriptures: Jn.14:26, Jas.1:5, Jn.16:29

One of the greatest challenges of the godly husbandman is how to transfer godly instructions, his values and position in Jesus Christ to his wife and children. And to that extent, the shepherd is unable to command the response he desires from his sheep and this unfortunately makes the husbandman frustrated and unhappy. And that is exactly what the main Scripture in today’s teaching tries to communicate to you and I, though the verses are rather lengthy. But I would try to bring out some vital lessons for you and I so that we can function maximally as godly men, husbands and fathers. And for better understanding, I would encourage you to please study Genesis chapter 2 and verses 14-18.

And the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it. For in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die.

And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a help meet for him. (Gen.2:15-18)

I want you to note the following points. First, God was clear about what He wanted from the man. Second, God directed the commandment to the man.

So, in Genesis chapter 3, the Scripture tells us about the fall of the first.

Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, yea, hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the Garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die…….she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat. (Gen.3:1-6). Comparing this Scripture and that of Gen.2:15, you will notice that the instructions were not the same. What God told the husband was not what the wife said and sadly, the husband was watching when all the conversation between his wife and the devil was on. The wife didn’t get a buy-in from her husband because he did not communicate effectively the commandment of God. As the head of your family and the spiritual leader of your flock, you must work at improving your communication skill, whether it is about communicating your finances, spiritual matters or any other issues. Your wife and children need to understand what you have said. They need to understand what you stand for.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to communicate Your perfect will and instructions to my wife and children effectively.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open the eyes of understanding of my wife and children to see what I am saying.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give my sheep the heart to understand every instruction I communicate to them and help them to obey it joyfully.

FAITH CONFESSION

I receive grace from God through the Person of the Holy Spirit to effectively communicate godly instructions to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
