Main Scriptures: Gen.3:1-12
More Scriptures: Jn.14:26, Jas.1:5, 1Tim.3:2
A lot of the times, the root cause of the problems you have with your wife and children is communication gap. And this leads to assumptions. Your wife and children assume so many things about you and what you represent, which leads to conflict. You must understand that you are the first pastor over your wife and children. And one of the characteristics of a pastor or shepherd is to teach his sheep. This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop (leadership), desireth a good work. A bishop (leader) then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach. (1Tim.3:1-2)
So how do I communicate effectively with my wife and children, now that I know that I am the first teacher to my sheep? The first step is to continue to depend on the Person of the Holy Spirit. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He will TEACH you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you (Jn.14:26). It is not enough for you to have the best intentions for your wife and children, it is much more important for your to be able to communicate your thoughts with them. And the only Person who can help you is the Holy Spirit. From the Scripture, He is your teacher. He will teach how to communicate the will of God without assumptions. He will also prepare the hearts of your flock to accept and yield to your commands, desires or expectations. Secondly, you must seek wisdom on the altar of prayer. In Jas. 1:5, the Scripture has this to say, “if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him. Thirdly, you must intercede for them by asking the Holy Spirit to do two things. The first is that He should open their eyes of understanding that they may see (Eph.1:18). The second is that the Holy Spirit should give them a heart to understand and the power to act on your godly instructions. The prayer altar generates the power you and your sheep need to be followers of godly instructions because by strength they may disobey you. This is why the Bible tells us that the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
God wants you to succeed. So, He will be more than willing to release the wisdom that would make you a good communicator to your sheep. And as you communicate well with your wife and children, you will be saved from frustration and disappointments. As a leader, you will also be honoured by your sheep. Don’t live your life in ambiguity, be a good communicator to your wife and children.
