Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Tim.2:3-4

More Scriptures: Mk.9:29, Acts 3:6, Lk.10:19

In the last few days, we have been considering likes and how understanding the relationship between them can help you and I as godly men, husbands and fathers, function in the fullness of our calling. And if you can take hold of the truth from the Word of God concerning your covenant responsibilities, you will enjoy the peace of God in your relationship with your wife and children. So, today, let us consider another like. The captain of the class, and I want to limit it to the school environment. If you are very familiar with how the educational system runs in some places, you will observe that in every class there is a class captain. His or her job is to oversee the class and reports directly to the class teacher. So, in the army of students or pupils, there is a class captain. Now, imagine for a moment your home as a classroom with students, who in this case including you, your wife and children. Who do you think is the class captain? Is it your wife? Certainly not! Is it your child or children? Far from it! Is it you? Absolutely, yes! But what does this position confer on you? It confers on you AUTHORITY AND TRAINING.

As the captain of your family, you are to give direction, instruction and support to your wife and children. You are to also learn to ventilate your expectations of them upward to God. Where they fail or are struggling, you are to lend a helping hand to them. You are not to oppress or harass them. The captain band that God puts in your upper arm is not to make you a bully but the godly workman. So, that is the authority you have as the captain over your sheep and this comes with a lot of hard work and sacrifice. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this world (2 Tim.2:3-4).

Furthermore, you also need to train your sheep. And for you to do that, you must first develop your own capacity, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically through your conscious engagement of your heart to the study of and meditation and acting on the word of God. The more of the word of God you have inside you by revelation, the more empowered you become to act like a true captain. This is why you must not just have head knowledge of the word, you must have revelation knowledge. You also must give yourself to praying and fasting as a lifestyle (Mk.9:29).And as you engage in doing what God demands of you as the godly man, husband and father, your level of authority as the captain over the sheep of God will increase in the lives of your sheep. God has entrusted you with His assets-your wife and children. God wants you to reflect His nature, attitude and action in all that you think and do toward your sheep. So, you must continue to be responsible as the head of your family and know that you are accountable firstly to God and secondly to your wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

God has chosen me as the captain of His team, and I am committed to lead members of His team in righteousness and truth because that is what makes me the godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
