GROWING UNTO MATURITY

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Luke 7:14-16

More Scriptures: Gen.17:3, Zech.7:9, Matt.15:32

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of God (2Cor.3:18)

The journey to becoming the good and godly husbandman is not as cheap and simple as many people think. It comes with its challenges, temptations, pressures and joys. And if you do not have this perspective as the godly shepherd, you may not grow. To some husbands, becoming like Jesus Christ to their sheep is not possible. Others believe, you can only try. But you must understand that there is no perfect husband, but there is a husband who is walking toward maturity. It is very important for you to understand that one of the lies of the devil is to make you think that you cannot be better than where you are or cannot come out of that mess you are in. So, he tells you, “after all, you’re not perfect” “you are not the only one doing it”.Don’t fall for these cheap lies. Jesus Christ, who is the best example of the good and godly husband, is perfect. During His ministry on earth, He acted maturely. Pastor John Maxwell said, “every word He spoke, everything He did, served to model what godly leadership looks like”.

Now, what makes you a perfect husbandman? Firstly, you are hospitable and accommodating and a willing agent through which God works to bring healing to your wife and children when their health is attacked. It also requires you making your home friendly and fun rather than hostile.  Secondly, you minister provision, protection and direction to your wife and children and extend help to people around you. Thirdly, you give hope and encouragement to your wife and children Jesus Christ, the Head of all husbands, did all these and much more. He healed the sick, and lame. He cast out evil and unclean spirits. He ministered to the lowly. You may have failed in some or all these expectations as the godly husbandman, but you must continue to challenge yourself to become all that God wants you to be to your wife and children. But for you to walk in perfection, you must behold Jesus Christ through His word for every step, decision and action you want to take as the man, husband and father. As you behold His word, you are changed from the inside to be responsible on the outside. As the spiritual leader of your home and your family fold, it is your responsibility to reach out to your wife and children. Your flock needs you. They need you in their lives. They want you to be part of their lives. They want to see you as their first mentor. They want to celebrate you in their lives. God has presented to you the greatest opportunity to demonstrate to your wife and children who a perfect husband is, for a great prophet has arisen up among us and God has visited His people (Lk.7:16).

FAITH CONFESSION

I am made in the image and likeness of God and perfected by His grace and mercy and I commit to do what is righteous to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
