PURPOSE DETERMINES ACTION

I want to refer to two famous quotes because they have significance to the topic we want to consider today for the godly husbandman. The first is from Dr. John Maxwell. In one of his books, he said, “why determines what”. The second is from Dr. Myles Munroe. He said, “where purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable”. ……….As a husband and the head of your family, you must have experienced times when your wife or children have behaved in certain unpleasant ways. Sometimes, you wonder if you made a mistake marrying your wife or having children. But I want you to know that as the shepherd of your flock and the pastor over your wife and children, the whysshould stimulate the what, from the Word of God. That is, what you say, what you do and why you do what you do to your wife and children must be considered because you know and appreciate why God made them and sent them to you. Some of the whys you may have to consider are these. Why did my wife disrespect me? Why did my wife cheat on me? Why did my wife hide her finances from me? Why did my wife not cook my special meal for me? Why did my wife not wash my clothes? Why has my wife not conceived since we got married? Why is my wife a talkative? Why did my children not do well in school? Why are my children rebellious? Why are my children disrespectful? Why do my children find it difficult to listen to instructions?

Yes, so many whys! Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be downcast. Don’t throw in the towel. Don’t raise your hands up in defeat. Don’t allow your enemy, satan, to have the final say. In all of these questions that have bothered you, there is an answer in the word of God. As you engage the word and the Person of the Holy Spirit, He gives direction on what to do to reverse the ungodly trend in the life of your wife and children. But you need to take the following steps. Firstly, renew your mind and see satan as the influence behind the negatives working in the lives of your sheep. If you don’t see satan as the cause, you will be attacking the wrong people-wife, children, relations, friends and even the society. And when you accept this truth, you will be able to wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers and wickedness in high places (2Cor.10:4). Secondly, you must maintain focus by seeing the plan of God for your wife and children. God has great plans for your wife (Pro.31:25-29) and children (Is.61:9). Let this vision drive your resolve to find a godly solution rather than back out. Thirdly, engage the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit to help you. He can teach you all things (Jn.14:26). Fourthly, walk in love towards your wife and children because the love of God CONQUERS ALL.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to see the great plans You have for my wife and children from Your word.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to believe all Your plans and purpose for my wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me the power both to will and do of Your good pleasure for my sheep.

FAITH CONFESSION

I believe the Word of God concerning the plans and purpose of God for my wife and children and I walk in that light because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
