One of the greatest deceits satan throws at the husbandman is that no woman can be trusted. So, you find so many husbands who do not trust their wives, hence they keep a lot of vital information away from her. This lie of the devil has multiplied distrust between the shepherd and the sheep. But from the word of God, you will discover that one of the cardinal pillars to leading your sheep and earning their loyalty is to trust them. And you have the responsibility to build them up so that they become the virtuous wife you desire and the mighty children that you want.
Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust her, so that he shall have no need of spoil (Pro.31:10-11). As a husband and the head of your family, trust is the umbilical cord that binds you and your wife together. It is the foundation upon which your wife and you can build a good and godly family. Without it, there is no relationship that exists between you and your wife. Secondly, trust is of the heart and not of the head. What this means is that you don’t assume trust, you deliberately choose to trust. The Scripture says, “and the heart of her husband doth safely trust her. So, you can see that trust is at the center of your relationship with your wife. According to the word of God to you, your heart must not just trust your wife, it must safely do so. This is so important because it is your security to fulfilment as the good and godly husbandman. The day you start doubting your wife is the day you lose your security over her life. The day you start suspecting your wife is the day you commence the destruction of your family foundation. So, how do I now safely trust my wife? Firstly, you must walk in the love of Christ. God is love (1Jn.4:8) and if you dwell in Him you also dwell in love (1Jn.4:16). What this love does for you is that it covers the multitude of sins that your wife may have committed. It also helps you to see her as someone who needs help and not condemnation. It further helps you to think of what is good, lovely and of good report toward her in every situation (Philp.4:8). Secondly, you must feed your heart with the right words. The Bible is filled with so much words you can draw from. God’s word is life. God’s word is faith. God’s word builds. Thirdly, you must continually keep the communication line between you and God open. Prayer destroys doubts. Prayers elevate trust and faith. Insecure husbands doubt their wives. Husbands who are secured in Jesus Christ and His word safely trust their wives. Therefore, build up your wife in righteousness so that you can safely trust her (Eph.5:25) because that is your heritage as the godly husbandman.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy every trace of doubt in my life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to build up my wife and children in Your most holy faith.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with Your love and let it overcome every misbehaviour of my sheep.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am committed to building up my wife and children in truth and righteous works so that I can safely trust them because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus Name. Amen.
