A lot of the times as the shepherd of the sheep that God has committed to our hands, that is our wives and children, we easily lose sight of who is responsible for the attitude of our sheep. We most often look the wrong way. We attack our sheep or blame someone else, forgetting that there is a spirit that is working disobedience in them. And that spirit is from the devil and he works through the sheep so that he can destroy the sheepfold and the sheep. Hence the Scripture has this to say in that regards.
The thief (satan) cometh not but to steal, to kill and to destroy. But I (Jesus Christ) has come that you may have life and have it more abundantly (Jn.10:10). The misbehavior of your wife or children is rooted in the operation of the devil, sin and the world. Satan is the person instigating and influencing them to do the things that you don’t like. If you read the message of Jesus Christ, an example for husbands, He tells us that the devil has come to steal, kill and destroy (Jn.10:10). Whatever you notice about your wife and children that is ugly and ungodly is coming from the devil, sin and the world. It is spiritual force working to defile your sheep. All the troubles you are having with your wife and children are intended by the devil to destroy your glorious family life. God has ordained your home and family to be a garden of honour and blessing. This is why the Scriptures tell us that our fight is not against flesh and blood, but it is against principalities and powers in dark and high places. You must understand that as the head of the family and overseer of your wife and children, your position will be continually threatened by the devil. He is afraid that your godly influence would lead your wife and children to heaven and make them a positive mark on earth.
If you have this understanding, you will not confront your wife and children rather, you will confront the devil, your enemy. Physically or emotionally abusing your wife, denying her your good benevolence, becoming harsh and unfriendly with your children as a result of their unwarranted misbehavior is not the solution. It is not God’s way to bringing them to godly path. However, instead of physically or mentally assaulting your sheep, I want you to deal ruthlessly with the devil and instigator of bad behaviours because he is your real enemy and not your wife and children. So, how do you confront satan and overcome his tricks? Firstly, you confront satan, sin and the world by the weapon of intercession and fasting (Mk.9:27-29). Intercession will break every stronghold responsible for the irresponsible life that your sheep is living. Secondly, you confront satan by pleading the blood of Jesus Christ over your wife and children and their attitude (Rev.12:10-12). The blood of Jesus Christ has the power to clean up your sheep. It has the power to renew their mind and make them act godly to you and in every way possible.
Don’t watch satan, sin and the world take your wife and children for a ride, thereby making them to walk in ungodliness. Arise and take the battle for the rescue, restoration and recovery of your sheep to the enemy’s gate because satan is your real enemy and not your wife and children.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to deal with the enemy of the soul of my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, expose to me the trick of the devil that is responsible for my wife and children’s ungodly attitude and misbehaviour.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me victory and hear me whenever I lift my wife and children in prayers.
