JOINED TOGETHER

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Genesis 2:21-24

More Scriptures: Matt.19:5-6, Mal.2:14-15, Pro.5:18

And he said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they twain shall be one flesh. Wherefore they are no more twain (two) but one flesh. Whatever therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder (Matt.19:6-7).

I will begin by saying that your marriage relationship with your wife is established by God, and not your church or parents. The Scripture says that whatever therefore God has joined together (Matt.19:7). It is God who joined you with your wife. God is also a witness (Mal.2:14). God did not make you to be an island. That is why He said in Genesis chapter 2:15-18 that it is not good for you to be alone. As great as God is, He is not alone. He is with the Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. God created you to partner with someone. And that someone is your wife.

Your wife remains your first and most important partner because both of you have become one flesh. It is very important for you to also know that your partnership with your wife is a covenant sealed by the power of God. Partnering with your wife is your fastest route to overcoming obstacles of life-be it barrenness, financial emptiness, evil forces, unruly children or extended family crises. In Ecclesiastics chapter 4 verse 8, the scripture makes it clear that being alone opens you to unending labour and struggles. But when you partner with your wife, it provides you with a safety net for strength and comfort. Therefore, rekindle your friendship with your wife and make the best out of it. Deliberately and consciously work toward making her your best friend.

Don’t deal with her wickedly but in knowledge and wisdom of God. Remember that she is your project given to you by God and you will present her before God on the judgment day according to Ephesians 5:20-27. So, to dishonour her is to dishonour God.

But how do I make my wife my covenant partner for effective an relationship? Firstly, treat her with respect at home and outside the house. Intercede for her often especially in those areas of her life where she needs help. Serve her with your time, body and finances. Be open to her about your visions and dreams. Be her teacher, coach, and mentor. Be kind and faithful to her. When you do these things, then you would have succeeded in making her your covenant partner-one flesh
