Main Scriptures: Heb.12:14-16
More Scriptures: Jn.14:26, Pro.4:20, Ps.64:6
This admonition is directed to every husband and father and it has become very timely and relevant especially in this age we are in, where everyone seems to be very busy and in a hurry. As the head of the family, you must realize that your adversary is going about looking for whom he will devour. He is set out to steal, kill and destroy your family kingdom (Jn.10:10). He keeps you so busy pursuing after the things of this world that you gradually lose grip of the power in the word of God which can build you up. Most often than not as husbands, we have focused on the minor and left the major. And the result has been tension in the family kingdom. This is why the Scripture is warning you and I to look diligently, lest we fall into ungodliness. Follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you and thereby many be defiled (Heb.12:14-15).
As the husband and leader in your family kingdom, you must not allow any root of bitterness to spring up between you and your sheep. It doesn’t matter who may be at fault, you must enforce and enthrone peace. Cases abound where husbands who dotted around their wives suddenly turned their back against them. It is because the husband did not diligently watch for those small foxes that destroy the vine. But how do I look diligently so that I do not fail the grace of God and become defiled?
First, you look diligently by praying in the Holy Ghost. In Jn.14:26, the Scripture says that the Comforter, the Holy Ghost will teach you all things and will bring to your remembrance all things. The Person of the Holy Spirit is like a watchman. He reminds you of what to do to your wife and children and brings to your attention areas where you need improvement. Secondly, you must continue to fill your heart with the word of God. In Prov.4, the word of God says, my son give attention to my word, incline your ears to my saying and let them not depart from your heart, for they are life to those that find them and health to all their flesh (Pro.4:20-21). The more you allow the word of Jesus to gain root in your heart, the more His nature is imparted in you. That is the way to go as a good and godly husband.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, by Your Spirit, open my eyes to see areas where I need improvement.
- Father, by Your Spirit, open my ears to hear what you want me to do to become a better husband and father.
- Father, by the blood of Jesus, deliver me from spiritual complacency.
FAITH CONFESSION
I keep the word of God daily before me and watch because that is the key to becoming a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
