Main Scriptures: Gen.13:14-15

More Scriptures: Jer.29:11, Gen.15:15, Gen.17:1

Yesterday, by the help of the Holy Spirit, we understood that as the head of our families, we cannot separate our functions as husbands and spiritual leaders of our family kingdom from the instructions in the word of God. So, what other step must you and I take in order to look away from the faults of our sheep? It is the spiritual demand of prayer. As the godly husbandman, you must maintain a consistent prayer life, by praying for your eyes to be opened to see the glorious future that God has for your wife and children. In Eph. 1:18, the Scripture says, I pray that your eyes of understanding be enlightened that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.

You must continue to ask the Lord for grace to help you grow unto maturity (Gen.17:1). Your ability to look away from the inadequacies of your wife and children and pay attention to the glorious destiny God has ordained for them cannot be achieved by your physical strength. It is beyond just a resolution. It is more than just a wish. It is much more than your mental strength. It requires spiritual empowerment. You will require the help of God through His Holy Spirit because without the help of the Spirit of God, you will continue to struggle to look away.

The Holy Spirit empowers. He makes you to do the impossible and the extraordinary. When the Holy Spirit empowered the apostles in Acts 2, they were boldened and began to speak in other languages. Peter who was timid and fearful became a man who led many people to Christ. Being a praying husband is not just to meet your need for a house, car, job, children, promotion, business breakthrough or even food. Prayer is the best platform to receive power from on high to function maximally as God had planned.

Now, what blessing do you enjoy if you look away? First, your wife and children will attain their full potential in Christ. The Scripture says in Jer.29:11, for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end. God has great plans for your sheep. You must help them live it to the fullest. Second, you enjoy peace round about. And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace, and thou shalt be buried in a good old age (Gen.15:15). You enjoy peace of mind with your flock when you learn to look away from the standpoint of their failures. And this peace of mind translates to good health, strength and vitality.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from spiritual blindness
  • Father, by Your Spirit, give me seeing eyes and hearing ears.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, empower me to be matured in my walk with You and my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I look away from the weakness and faults of my wife and children and focus my attention to their glorious future because that is my honour as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
