APPLY THE 30 SECOND RULE

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Jn.1:41-42

More Scriptures: 2Cor.4:2, Rom.16:1, Acts 24:3

What is the 30 second rule? How does it work? By the help of the Holy Spirit, I will be sharing with you the secret of the 30-second rule.

He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, we have found the Messiah, which is translated, the Christ, and he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, he said, you are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas, which is translated, a stone (Jn.1:41-42). This verse of Scripture gives an account of two brothers who were with Jesus Christ. The brothers were Andrew and Peter. Andrew found Jesus Christ and almost immediately told his brother Peter about the encounter he had with Jesus. He brought his brother to meet with Jesus. Jesus recognized him and commended him on the spot, when He said, “you shall be called Cephas (Jn.1:42). This is called the 30 second rule. It means on the spot.

As the head of your family and the leader of God’s sheep in your custody, I want you to adopt the 30 second rule with your wife and children. When they do something right, immediately recognize it and commend them for it. Don’t say that you appreciate their good works in your heart. Say it loud to their hearing. Did your wife cook a sumptuous meal for you or your friends? Say it loud and on the spot that the meal was delicious and let everyone present know that your wife is a good chef. Did your wife act in ways that impress you? Commend her openly and immediately. Did she offer some help even though it looks small? Commend her for it immediately. Did your child wash the dishes by his or her own initiatives? Commend them on the spot. Did your child return home with an excellent exam result? Commend your child on the spot. Did your child act in ways that please you? Commend him or her on the spot. What this means is that you commend your wife and children within 30 seconds of their good act. And if you are not close, and you are told of the good things they have done, call them on the phone and commend them.

This is the secret to encouraging your sheep to do better. Remember that after Jesus openly commended Peter, he went ahead to become the major pillar of Jesus’ ministry. So, if Jesus Christ, the perfect example of how husbands are ordained to behave, applied the 30 second rule, it is wisdom for you to do the same to your flock. It is a righteous thing to commend your sheep. It does not reduce them rather, it increases them. And when you cultivate and sustain this attitude, you would see the best of God in the lives of your wife and children and they will honour you with their lives in return.

 SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to appreciate my wife and children immediately.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to see the good in my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from acts of ingratitude.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am committed to instantly appreciate and commend my sheep for the big and small acts of good that they do because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
