IN THE MIDST OF STORM

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: John 13:4-8

More Scriptures: Gal.4:19, Is.52:13, Ac.13:7

Just when I was preparing to come to work, I heard this word from the Holy Spirit, and He referred me to John the 13th chapter and verses 4 to 8. As a husband, if you study our main text today, you will discover that Jesus had a moment of madness with one of His flock, Peter. Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband, had been with his flock for nearly three years, teaching and exhorting them in the way of truth. Then a moment came when He wanted to demonstrate His servant-hood to His flock, but was rejected by Peter.

Now, as the head of the family, there are moments at home when it appears your flock had just finished having dinner with the devil- a submissive wife suddenly turned into a rebellious woman and an obedient child revolting against you. Even when you try to understand what may have informed this unruly behavior, you get even a worse treatment from them, which could be embarrassing. You just want to do the unthinkable to them- disown them, run away into the arms of another woman, consume alcohol, be bitter towards them, deny them your love and goodwill and much more. Your wife and children just want to make you run mad. This is what Jesus encountered with His flock. So, in this moment of madness, what would be your best approach as the spiritual head and authority of your family fold? Let us take a cue from Jesus Christ, our Perfect example of a godly husband and leader. In verses 6-8, Jesus Christ used the power of godly persuasion to get the attention of Peter. He did not beat Peter to submission. He did not curse him either. He did not hold grudge against him. He intelligently and lovingly persuaded him to understand His good intentions for them. That is what the Holy Spirit is telling you today. Argument with your wife and children will not solve the matter. Physically beating up your wife and children or emotionally doing so will not bring them to a place of understanding. Only godly persuasion will.

But how can I be empowered to the point of being able to persuade my wife and children to submit to me? First, you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Secondly, you must give yourself to intercession, where you daily lift the lives of your wife and children to God in prayers that Christ be formed in them. Thirdly, you keep declaring and prophesying God’s counsel over their lives in your closet. When you do these, you will discover that it will be easier to stop the moment of madness and instill the moment of joy into the lives of your sheep and in your home.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, empower me to be spiritual and be useful to my wife and children.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, help me to appreciate the spiritual origin of my office as the head of the family.
  • Father, by the blood of Jesus, deliver me from the power of carnality and selfishness.

 FAITH CONFESSION

I am committed to having the right attitude to my wife, children and to all men because I am a good and godly husband in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
