MAKING GOD’S LOVE ATTRACTIVE TO YOUR SHEEP (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: John 8:31-33

More Scriptures: Matt.5:16, Matt.6:22, 1Pt.3:7

Yesterday, we looked at one of the ways the husbandman can make himself attractive to his wife and children. From the word of God and by the Person of the Holy Spirit, we understand that when we conduct ourselves in the way and manner God wants us to as a man, husband and father to our sheep, they will be attracted to us. That our godly disposition to them is what makes us valuable.

Today, we shall be looking at other ways of making love attractive to our sheep-wife and children. As the head of the family and someone who desires the honour and glory from your sheep, you must respect your wife and children. You must see them as gifts from God. You must see them as royalty. In 1Peter 3 and verse 7, the Word of God tells us that husbands must deal with their wives according to knowledge so that their prayers will not be hindered. Don’t treat your wife as if she is a slave or a less than a human being. It doesn’t matter whether she is educated or not, tall or short, black or ugly. You must understand and accept the truth that she is made in the image and likeness of God and so deserves your respect and honour. Furthermore, if you also read Eph.6:4, it talks about giving respect to our children as their leaders and nurturing them in the way and admonition of the Lord. It is a common saying that respect begets respect. And one of the ways you show respect to your wife and children according to the word of God is to relate with them according to who they are – their strength, weakness, inadequacies, and fears.

Another thing that you can do to make yourself a magnetic field of love as the head of the family is to consult with them. You engage them in productive conversations that would enhance their spiritual, emotional and physical well-being. The greatest harm you could do to yourself as the head of the family is to think that you have all the answers or that you know it all. That is called pride, and sadly it has become the undoing of several shepherds. There is the need for you to consult with your wife and children in the administration and policy formulation of your family kingdom. In Gen.31:4-7, you will read about the consultation attitude that Jacob, the husband of Rebekah, displayed. You must understand that no matter how much you think you know, there is still something else that you still do not know. Sometimes, the supposedly foolish suggestions from your wife and children could be the one that would save you. It could also make all the difference in your life. Make it a duty to ask for the opinion of your sheep. They are worth your partnership.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by the blood of Jesus, help me to value my wife and children according to Your commandment.
  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus, break the power of pride and arrogance in my life.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, baptize me with the spirit of humility and give me a teachable spirit.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Christ and I will allow Jesus Christ to live His life through me so that I can be the good and godly husbandman to my wife and children in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
