BE THE GODLY REFLECTION

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Acts 4:9

More Scriptures: Ps.26:2, 1Cor.11:28, 2Cor.13:5

One of the biggest links that is missing between the shepherd and the sheep is godly mentorship. Many sheep do not have godly models to copy and so we have shepherds without godly examples. Sadly, this has continued to be the greatest challenge you and I must work with the Person of the Holy Spirit to overcome if we want to leave behind a good and godly legacies for our sheep-wife and children. It is your personal responsibility as well as mine to make our lives-conduct, comments, responses and actions-be the godly model.

Now consider the Scripture. If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole (Acts 4:9). Note these words, “if we be examined of the good deed “. These were the words of the Apostles that display character. They showed the people what is right by their good deeds. That is what God expects you to do to your wife and children. God wants you to show good and godly examples to them. God wants you to be that godly role model to them. God wants to live His nature through you. As the head of your family and spiritual leader over your wife and children, you must come to terms with the truth that every change you want to see in the lives of your sheep begins with a change in you. It is not enough to complain that your wife and children do not respect you and give you the honour that you deserve. What should bother you is if you are the good and godly model to them. In Matt.5:16, the Scripture says, let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Until God’s light shines abundantly in you, you cannot reflect it to others. The ultimate of your headship is to shine forth the light of Jesus in truth and in deed to those around you so that they may glorify God.

So, how do I begin to change myself to mentor my wife and children? Firstly, you must feed on the word of God richly by allowing the instructions and commandments of the word of God to influence your thought and conduct. The Bible encourages us to allow the word of God to dwell in us richly (Col.3:16). The more of His word you allow into your life, the more transformed you become and the more influence you have to mentor your wife and children unto godly living. Secondly, you must run with the word that you have allowed into your life by doing what it says you should do. Yes, you have prayed the word into your life. Yes, you have believed that the word works. You have believed that the word can change anybody. Now, you must put what you have read and heard into practice. The word of God describes Paul the Apostle as a man who exercised himself unto godliness (1Tim.4:7). Thirdly, you must engage the help of the Holy Spirit to deliver on God’s expectation of you. The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead. He empowers you both to hear and to do. Make your life a living example and let it give godly picture to your wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, empower me to feed richly on Your word.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, let the Spirit behind Your word, come alive in me.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, empower me to practice everything You teach me from Your word and help me mentor my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I read and receive the word of God and run with it because that is what makes me the good and godly mentor to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
