CELEBRATE YOUR WIFE AND CHILDREN

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Rom. 16:4-5

More Scriptures: Gen.18:19

Great Priscilla and Aquila, my helpers in Christ Jesus. Who have for my life laid down their own necks, unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles (Rom.16:4-5).

There was a popular Nigerian reality programme, called “Bukka and Joint”. It was shown every Sunday evening on AIT Television station, however, it has been rested. It is about advertising good restaurants in Nigerian where local foods are sold. The anchor of programme visits these restaurants and have a taste of their meals. At the end of eating, he presents to his host a gift-a gold plated cooking spoon- to appreciate his host for the meal. Now, if you look at this and relate it with our main scripture today, you will discover that you are duty bound to appreciate your wife and children when they serve you.

As a husband to your wife, you must never take the service that your wife renders to you for granted. Rather, you must appreciate her because that is the only way you can get more from her. Your wife as well as your children must be appreciated for those little acts of kindness. You must also understand that your wife and children are not slaves. The Bible says that they are fearfully and wonderfully made by God and in His image also.

In Romans chapter 16, the Apostle Paul appreciated the efforts of Priscilla and Aquila towards his ministry. It doesn’t matter how little the service may be from your wife and children, you must not take it for granted.

But why must I appreciate my wife and children? Firstly, it is because it is Scriptural. God commends us when we serve Him. Infact, He rewards us with blessings. God takes notice of those small act of service. So, if the Almighty God appreciates you and I, then you owe it to your wife and children to thank them when they serve. Secondly, you are empowering your wife and children to understand the importance of appreciation and gratitude. As the spiritual leader in your home, your job is to show your sheep the path of righteousness, that is to know and do what is right. For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment, that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him (Gen.18:19). Let me share with you my personal testimony. Whenever I finish eating the meal my wife serves me, I deliberately tell her “thank you”.Why? Because she is my helpmeet (Gen.2:18). On a particular day, my daughter asked me why I always tell her mummy, thank you. I replied her that her mother deserves it because she helped to prepare the meal. This heartitude of gratitude has rubbed off on my children so that whenever, my wife or I give them something, no matter how small it may be, each one of them says, “thank you mummy or thank you daddy”.
