BRING THEM THE GOODNEWS

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Luke 4:43-44

More Scriptures: Lk.4:15, Mk.1:39, Heb.12:3

There is one very important responsibility you and I owe our sheep. And that responsibility is to teach them good news of the Bible. This is very key to our performance as the godly husbandmen to our sheep. God has made you and I teachers of His word, and the first student is our sheep. That’s why officials must have a good reputation and be faithful in marriage. They must be self-controlled, sensible, well-behaved, friendly to strangers, and ABLE TO TEACH (1Tim.3:2) CEV. The Bible remains the surest foundation you can build your wife and children on. It is enduring, lasting and effectual (Heb.4:12).

Now, Jesus Christ, has given you and I an example of the importance of taking the responsibility to teach our sheep the word of God. And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also. For therefore am I sent. AND HE PREACHED IN THE SYNAGOGUES OF GALILEE (Lk.4:43-44). As the head of your family, your first place of assignment where you are to demonstrate the love of God is in your home. Your first parish is not your church but your home, and your first congregation is your wife and children. It is hypocrisy for you to teach and be seen as a loving, caring, faithful and compassionate shepherd by outsiders and yet you are a terror to your wife and children at home. Nothing is worse than being a pretentious husbandman. Jesus Christ, the Perfect example of how you are ordained to behave, was first an example to His disciples, before extending His gestures to outsiders. He interacted more with His disciples. He taught them and helped them to make wise decisions. For instance, Jesus asked His disciples who did people think He was. Some said that He was Elijah while others said He was the prophet. But He specifically wanted to find out from his immediate family, His 12 disciples their assessment of His personality.

As the head of your family, it is not what outsiders think of you that is as important as what your wife and children think of you. No one should know you better than your wife and children. Your sheep should be able to vouch for your character without fear or favour. If your goodness does not start from your home and with your relationship with your wife and children, you are of all men miserable.

But how do I preach first at home? Firstly, rework your focus. What this means is that your focus should be to walk in and work out God’s will for your wife and children by studying and meditating on the word of God (Bible). Secondly, you must consciously seek the help of the ministry of the Holy Spirit to help you live a life of truthfulness and holiness. Thirdly, you must keep looking unto Jesus Christ (Heb.12:1-3), because He is the Author and finisher of your faith. He is your perfect example. And as you walk to become the good and godly husbandman at home, your life becomes an example for your wife and children to emulate.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, and by Your grace and mercy, make me a living example to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to become a positive influence over my wife and children by Your word.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to teach my sheep Your word and deliver me from every root of deceitfulness and pretenses.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give attention to the word of God and I teach my wife and children and I live by it in truth and faithfulness because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
