IN SEASON AND OUT OF SEASON

Spread the love

Main Scripture: 2Tim.4:2

More Scriptures: Ecc.4:11, Is.8:18, Ezk.28:13

Are you frustrated with the attitude and conduct of your wife and children? Do you struggle to make your wife and children to see what you see? Well, be not discouraged because God’s word has provided the answer. Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine (2Tim.4:2). Stay at the word, hold onto the promises of God irrespective of the negative circumstances in and around your sheep and sheepfold.

As the husband and the head of your family, one virtue that you really need is persistence. The ability to remain steadfast, focused and undistracted in the face of a disobedient and ungrateful or even rebellious sheep. This is why the Scripture says that you must keep teaching your wife and children whether they seem to understand or not. You must keep pressing on until the change you desire to see in their lives happen. You cannot afford to give up on your wife and children. You must continue to demonstrate that you are a leader who has the faith to transform their lives.

But how do remain steadfast in my assignment to raise my wife and children unto godliness inspite of all the distractions from within and without? The first is for you to see beyond the moment and stay on the vision. You must see farther than your wife and children can, and put the vision and plans of God for you and your sheep and sheepfold in front of you. In Jer.1:10-11, God asked Prophet Jeremiah, “what seest thou?…. God wanted him to see the glorious plan He had for his life so that notwithstanding any unfavourable circumstances, he would run purposefully. God has ordained a glorious future for you and your wife and children. He said, two are better than one and they have a good reward for their labour (Ecc.4:8:11). God also said that “through your family shall the families of the earth be blessed (Gen.12:1-3). Concerning your children, He said that they shall be for “signs and wonders, (Is.8:18)”. The outlook God has prepared for your family is a garden of Eden, covered with every precious stone and beauty (Ezk.28:13). Secondly, you must have a-pastor-mentalitymind set. You are the good shepherd. God made you so. And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding (Jer.3:15). You job is to keep feeding and teaching your sheep with the right nutrient of the word, prayer and love. Very shortly, they will become a people of honour and they will draw all men to the Kingdom of God and bring glory to the Name of Jesus Christ (Matt.5:14-16).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to keep teaching my wife and children as You would.
  • Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to tirelessly pursue Your plan for my wife and children and family.
  • Father, in the name of Jesus, deliver me from every force of discouragement, fear and hopelessness.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am committed to teach and lead my wife and children in and out of season until Christ is formed in them because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.

I do not like the way you use some of the referenced scriptures, as they are very specific in who God was talking to or about, and in pointing to specific events. However, I do like the main point, and it is valid, “ You job is to keep feeding and teaching your sheep with the right nutrient of the word, prayer and love.”
