Yesterday, we looked at wisdom as one of the ingredients that you need in your inner man to enable you develop the capacity to behave like the good and godly husbandman. Today, let us look at another ingredient. It is diligence. Diligence is a heart thing. If, as the head of the family, you have not developed an attitude of diligence, you will complain over everything and anything. And that is not the spirit of the godly husbandman.
God made you the shepherd over His sheep so that you can work your mind and hands and provide for your wife and children. It does not fit your status as the head of your family if you refuse to engage your hands to earn a living for your sheep to enjoy. I have remarked that there is no hope for a lazy man. God hates laziness and you must resist the mindset that wants to make you lazy.
Many husbandmen want God to prosper them financially and materially, yet they do not want to work. They would rather pray, fast but refuse to go out there to engage their minds and hands. Blessed is the man …………and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper (Ps.1:1,3). Sadly, many husbandmen who do not provide for their sheep always want to eat the most meal and the best. They want to eat more than their sheep. It is a shame and a dishonour to the office of the husbandhood that you occupy. You must break loose from this satanic mentality of a dependent husbandman and enter into the full stature of your office which comes with responsibility and accountability. Now consider this command from the word of God for you and prayerfully have a rethink. “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of HIS HOUSEHOLD, HE HAS DENIED THE FAITH and is worse than an unbeliever (1Tim.5:8) NASB.
You married your wife. You took her away from her parent’s house. You brought her into your home so that you can become her shepherd. You took the role of a father in her life. You also planted your seed into her and by the grace of God, she brought a child (ren) for you. It is wickedness for you not to provide for them. My Father worketh hitherto and I work….(Jn.5:12). God is diligent. He worked and still working. Jesus Christ, your perfect example of the good and godly husbandman worked and still working. He was diligent. You don’t have the gene of laziness in you because you are made in the image and likeness of God (Gen.1:26-28). Determine today to be diligent and develop a mindset of work and watch God blesses and prospers you and improves your capacity to provide for your sheepfold as the good and godly shepherd.
