More Scriptures: Rom.6:14, Ezk.18:20, 1Jn.5:17

Let us take the twentieth capsule.

Capsule 20: THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN IS GREATER THAN THE PLEASURES OF SIN.

And she made him sleep upon her knees and she called for a man and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head, and she began to afflict him and his strength went from him. (Jdgs.16:19)

Have you ever wondered how a man so mighty and full of power can be so humiliated because of sin? The story of Samson aptly describes this truth, that the consequences of sin is greater than the pleasure of sin. Samson was a great man. He was ordained by God to deliver the people of Israel from their oppressors. He was a child of destiny. He had a great future of exploits ahead of him. But sadly, sin cut short all of that. He willfully lived in immorality and did not have any remorse whatsoever. He was arrogant about his misbehaviour even when he was cautioned. He threw caution to the wind because of the pleasure of a woman. And he paid dearly for it. The consequences of his inaction caused him his eyes, his strength, his vision and assignment. Therefore, today’s devotional is one teaching you must not ignore.

As the godly husbandman, you must understand that whatever sin will offer you in terms of pleasure and benefits is far less than the consequences. Sin gives you temporary considerations but brings you to shame and reproach and eternal damnation. What you pay for committing sin is more costly than the rewards. For instance, if you commit adultery, you lose your connection with God and your integrity with your wife and children. If you steal or commit murder, you will be executed or end up in jail, thereby bringing shame and disrepute to your family name. If you live in bitterness and unforgiveness, you lose true spiritual harmony with the Person of the Holy Spirit. Sin is a burden. It offers you no good. Now, read this Scripture to understand the impact of sin in your life. For the soul that sins shall die…..(Ezk.18:20). And “the wages of sin is death…..(Rom.6:23). Sin does not only kill you physically, it also kills you spiritually, emotionally and mentally.

Now what is sin? The answer is found in the Bible. I hope you have a Bible. All unrighteousness is sin….(1Jn.5:17). So, sin is when you do what is wrong from the perspective of Scriptures. It doesn’t matter what the world calls sin and it also matters less how the world describes sin. If what you do or say or think is contrary to what the word of God says, it is sin. Therefore, you and I as good and godly shepherds must be careful how we live and conduct our lives because God and our sheep-your wife and children and mine- are looking up to us. Let’s not disappoint God and them.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me of all my trespasses.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live a righteous life.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, let the words of my mouth, the meditation of my heart and the conduct of my life agree with Your commandments.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a new man in Christ, and I live and conduct my life according to the word of God because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
