Welcome to the month of May 2021. May is the fifth month which represents grace. I pray that the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the sweet fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. Amen. But what does it take to provide a purposeful leadership as the good and godly shepherd?
Few days ago, I was wondering what it takes for the husbandman to succeed as the godly man, husband and father. And this word, “courage” stirred up in my spirit. And the Person of the Holy Spirit led me to our main text today, Joshua chapter 1 and verses 6 and 7.
Be strong and of a good courage, for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I will sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee, turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. (Jos.1:6-7)
If you must succeed in providing godly leadership to your wife and children, you will require courage. If you must stand for what is right and do righteously in leading your sheep, you need courage. If you must refuse satan, sin and the attractions of the world, you need courage. If you must become all that God wants you to be to your wife and children, you need courage. That was what God told Joshua. Joshua was appointed a leader in Israel. He had the mandate to lead the people of God, but he needed something extra-courage.
But what us courage? It is the inner strength and ability to do the right thing and take the right steps and decisions. And it is the Spirit of God at work in the life of a man. And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and MIGHT ……..(Is.11:2). As the head of your family, you need the spirit of courage to walk in faith and make the lives of your wife and children worthy of God’s blessings. A lot of the times, you do not like the wrong things that you find yourself doing. You really want to take the right steps and act righteously, but you end up doing the opposite.
So, if courage is so important to me, how then can I access this Spirit of courage? Firstly, you ask for it in prayers. In Matthew chapter 7 and verse 7, the Scripture says, ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened. For everyone that asketh, receiveth…. You must intentionally and passionately ask the Holy Spirit to empower your inner man with boldness and courage. Secondly, you must speak in an unknown tongue, that is speaking in the language of the Spirit. Every time, you speak in tongues, you edify your inner man and generate power from within to refuse what is wrong and do what is right. Courage is your anchor.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the spirit of fear and intimidation.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the Spirit of courage to do Your will for my life, wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, build me up in Your word and stir up the Spirit of faith in my life.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am empowered by the Spirit of God to be bold and courageous in order to do His perfect will for my life, wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus’ name. Amen.
