YOUR AUTHORITY IN PERSPECTIVE

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matt.8:8-9

More Scriptures: Lk.10:19, Gen.12:3, Jas.4:6

Today’s message speaks to you and I who have been mandated by God to provide godly leadership to our sheep. It is one Scripture that I encourage you to spend some time meditating on, because it is the truth that transforms our perspective and orientation as husbandmen. I pray in the Name of Jesus that the Person of the Holy Spirit would open your eyes and mine to see the revelation truth in the word of God.

And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof but speak the word only and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority………(Matt.8:7-8).

One of the mistakes we make as shepherds over the sheep of God in our custody is to think that we are not answerable to anyone. So, we conclude that we have no limits. We think nobody can stop us. We think that as husbandmen, we can do and undo, act the way we want. We feel that nobody can talk to us. This is a lie from satan and he has used this to deceive so many husbandmen to misbehave, take decisions that are dangerous which lead to death and destruction.

In our passage today, this centurion, although, had great influence and had soldiers who reported to him, he recognized that he was under authority. He acknowledged that there was someone higher than him, hence he must listen to that person. As the shepherd over the sheep of God in your care, you must understand that you are under the authority of God who made you the head of the family. He made you the husbandman. He ordained you to lead your wife and children. He empowered you to reign and rule righteously over your sheep. And to that extent, you must be accountable to God.

So, what does this truth that you are under the authority help you to do? Firstly, it helps you to exercise restraint and caution in the way you live your life. Secondly, it also helps you to be and remain humble in your spirit and this is what makes God’s grace available for you to succeed as the godly man, husband and father.  My grace is sufficient for you……. Finally, it makes me you open to correction and admonition from your wife and children or any other godly influences around you.

Do not abuse your wife and children, emotionally and think you have the right to do so. Do not physically assault your sheep and think that nobody can call you to order. You must always remember that your presence in the lives of your wife and children is to be a blessing and not burden (Gen.12:1-3). God wants you to be accountably responsible to Him so that you can learn how to relate with your sheep with honour, dignity and respect. Always remember that there is He who watches from above. Be careful!

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the spirit of pride and arrogance.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, create in me a clean heart and renew in me a right spirit.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of humility to always defer to You.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am ordained by God to lead my wife and children and I am responsible to Him in all that I do, say, or think because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
