Main Scriptures: Rom.6:13-14
More Scriptures: Lk.10:19, Heb.12:4, Rom.8:2
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but yield yourself unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for ye are not under the law but under grace (Rom.6:12-14)
Let me admit here and now that as godly shepherds there are so many contentions and temptations that we are daily confronted with. The temptations and the invitation to live below the bar God has set for the godly husbandman are as real as day and night. The pressure to compromise and be ashamed to declare our stand for Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husband, weighs on us. On a regular basis, satan, sin, and the world throw at us things that seem attractive but offer death and destruction in the end. Many shepherds have fallen while others are standing.
But what did the Scripture say about you living above sin? The Bible says that you have dominion over sin. This means that you have control over what your body wants because God did not make it an instrument of unrighteousness. As the good and godly husbandman, you can overcome the force of sin. You can overcome adultery, addiction to pornography, fornication, stealing, murder, lying, deceitfulness, unfaithfulness and all other sinful natures. The provision for your victory was made when Jesus Christ declared on the Cross, “it is FINSIHED”. The word of God also made us to understand that as a result of the finished work at Calvary, “we are more than conquerors (Rom.8:37)”. Do not remain in that sinful life that you are involved in. Do not foreclose on your life that there is nothing you can do to come out of that sinful life. God wants the best for you so that through you, your wife and children and the sheepfold can be blessed.
Your headship is a privileged platform that God wants to use to showcase His godliness to your sheep. You must therefore make yourself available and accessible to God and His words. However, there are steps you must take to live a life of dominion. Firstly, you must give your life to Jesus Christ by confessing all your sins to Him and invite Him to come into your life. Secondly, you must consciously make Him the LORD over your life and everything that you represent. Thirdly, you must deliberately feed on the word of God-the Bible-as a lifestyle. The more of His word you have in you, the more knowledge you have to distinguish the lies of satan and the world from the truth from God. Fourthly, you must continue to declare your righteous stand in Jesus Christ because Christ has made you, His righteousness. Take your stand!
