Main Scriptures: Mk.15:14-15
More Scriptures: Acts 4:31, Pro.28:1, 2 Cor.7:4
The Scripture in Mk.15 tells the story of Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate. When Jesus Christ was wrongfully arrested by the Jews, He was brought to Pontius Pilate, who can be described as a judge in our day. The people accused Jesus Christ of so many wrong things and demanded that He must be killed. Pontius Pilate heard the request of the accusers of Jesus, but he knew that what they alleged that He did was false. Much as the people tried to justify what they accused Jesus of, they could not convince Pontius Pilate. There were no verifiable facts to back them. He knew they were lying. But Pilate answered them saying, will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy (Mk.15:10). Nevertheless, Pontius Pilate handed over Jesus Christ to His accusers. He was tortured, abused, striped, mocked, bruised and eventually crucified. Then Pilate said unto them, why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, crucify him. And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him to be crucified (Mk.15:14-15).
Pontius Pilate was not man enough to do the right thing. He handed over an innocent person to be abused and humiliated. Now, this speaks to shepherds that are weaklings. They expose their sheep to the torment of their in-laws and outsiders. That your wife is not pregnant or has not given you a male child does mean that you should let your parents, siblings, friends, or even relations torment her. As the godly shepherd, you must not be like Pontius Pilate who was faint-hearted. You must protect your wife and children from every form of intimidation of man. You must be prepared to defend your wife and children from the offences of satan, sin, and the world. No one, no matter his or her position or status, is powerful enough to make you release your wife and children for harassment and embarrassment. The word of God says that you do not have the spirit of fear or intimidation. What God gave you is the spirit of boldness and a sound mind (2 Tim.1:7). So, step out and be the watchman over your wife and children against foxes.
However, for you to be better than Pontius Pilate, you need to desperately ask the Lord to fill you with the Spirit of courage. Joshua asked for it (Josh.1:6-9). You need more than a bold face to tell your parents or siblings to stay clear of intimidating your wife because she doesn’t have a child for you. You also need courage to tell your siblings or relations not to harass your daughters because they are girls. Courage is a spirit, and it comes only from God. Ask for it because you will always need it to function as the good and godly husbandman to your wife and children.
