The husbandman that laboureth…(2Tim.2:6).

One of the secrets I learnt early in life is that being a leader comes with enormous responsibilities. This understanding has helped me to take personal responsibility for the success or failure of my sheep and sheepfold. Why? Because God has entrusted the lives of my wife and children into my hands, and as a caretaker, I must give account of what I did or did not do with them. Above all, I know I owe my wife and children the singular privilege to reproduce the very life of Christ in them. To be called the good and godly husbandman is hard work. It is once and again assignment.

Your call to become the good and godly man, husband and father requires great responsibilities. It will demand from you, lots of sacrifices, commitments, determination and discipline. You must be willing to go the extra mile and live for the overall good of your wife and children. Infact, you now live for your sheep and sheepfold.

But for you to really appreciate your position as the leader, you must recognize this truth from the word of God. That is, you are called to lead and not to be led. This means that you are the shepherd, and your wife and children are the sheep with Jesus Christ as the Chief Shepherd. God set you in your family government to provide good and godly leadership. He puts you in front to lead and not the other way. And one of the many examples of your leadership trait is the capacity to provide what your wife and children will eat, drink, wear and live. If any cannot provide for his household, he is worse than an infidel (1Tim.5:7-8). You cannot claim to be in charge if you willfully shift your responsibility of providing for your wife and children to another person-your wife, children, parents, friends, neighbours. It is time to wake up and take up the responsibilities and demands that comes with your leadership position as the good and godly husbandman.

Having known this truth, you must engage the power of the Spirit of God to deal with fleshly tendencies such as indiscipline, selfishness, laziness and excuses. After the Apostles received the baptism of the Holy Ghost in Acts chapter 2, they began to declare boldly the counsel and will of God to everyone. They were never intimidated or fearful. Do not allow excuses, laziness, and fear hold you down. You must never be comfortable with your inability to perform your duties to your wife and children as the godly man, husband and father. Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations to whom the house of Israel come (Amos 6:1).

And as you diligently work to become the responsible husbandman and leader in your family kingdom, God, your wife, children and men will honour you.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every satanic force that wants to make me irresponsible as the godly man, husband and father.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, break the power of indolence and indiscipline in my life.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, build me up in honour and dignity amongst men.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have made up my mind to become a responsible leader to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
