Main Scriptures: Luke 7:11-16
More Scriptures: Heb.4:15, Gal.5:22, Matt.14:14
And it came to pass the day after that he went into a city called Nain, and many of his disciples went with him and much people. ………… behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother and she was a widow and much people of the city was with her. And the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said unto her, weep not. And he came and touched the bier and they that bare him stood still and he said, young man, I say unto you, arise. And he that was dead sat up and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. (Lk.7:11-16)
I want to begin today’s teaching by acknowledging the Person of the Holy Spirit as the source of this work that has blessed men, husbands and fathers around the world. I would want to submit that the assignment is to raise good and godly husbandmen who will bear godly fruits that will affect their sheep and make all the difference in the market place of life.
So, what happened in Nain? If you understand the event at Nain, you will appreciate what God wants you to do to your wife, children and the world. Now, this is the event in Nain. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman went to a city called Nain. So, it was a location, an environment. There He met a widow, whose only son had died. Jesus saw a large crowd crying with the widow over the death of her only son. But when Jesus Christ saw the widow, He did something that He expects you and me to do for our sheep. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said weep not (Lk.7:13).
As the head of the family and the one God has handed over the lives of your wife and children to, in order to provide godly leadership, you are required to do one thing always. God wants you to be compassionate to your wife and children. God also wants you to be compassionate to the hurting world. Your presence in the lives of your wife and children is to be the shoulders upon which they find peace, solace and comfort. You are the ladder on which your wife and children is to climb to find peace when they hurt, direction when they are confused, hope when they are discouraged and protection when they feel threatened.
Do not watch your wife and children go down in pain. Just as Jesus appeared in the city of Nain and brought restoration to the hurting widow by bringing her dead son back to life and making the people to laugh again, is exactly what God wants you to do in your sheepfold and to your wife and children and in the market place of life.
But for you to become the agent of hope and comfort to your wife and children, you need to be filled with the Spirit of God that produces the fruits of the Spirit (Gal.5:22). You must ask the Lord by His Spirit to pour on you the heart that is moved with compassion and mercy and not a judgmental spirit. That is what happened in Nain and that is what God wants to see happen in your sheepfold and in the lives of your wife and children through you (Matt.14:14).
