THE HUSBANDMAN LABOURETH

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Tim.2:4-6

More Scriptures: 1Tim.5:8, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:10

One of the secrets I learnt early in life is that being a leader comes with enormous responsibilities. This understanding has helped me to take personal responsibility for the success or failure of my wife, children and home. Do you know why? It is because God has entrusted the lives of my wife and children to my hands. God has made me a caretaker and I must give account of what I did or didn’t do with them. Above all, I know I owe my wife and children the singular privilege and honour to reproduce the very life of Christ at work in me in them. So when you are called the good and godly husbandman, it means you are called unto good works. And that is what the Person of the Holy Spirit wants to remind you and I today.

In 2Tim.2:6, the Scripture defines it this way, the husbandman that laboureth…. Your call into the office of the husbandman is truly a call to work. It would require from you lots of sacrifices, commitments, determination and discipline. For instance, it is not all things that are permissible. It is not all offers that you must take. It is not all conversation you must get into. Being the godly husbandman is not a one off event. It is a lifestyle. So, for you to become a responsible and godly husbandman and leader, you must consider the following.

Firstly, you must recognize that you are called to lead and not to be led. This places on you the responsibility to provide what your wife and children would eat, drink, wear and live and also their spiritual well being. You must never claim to be the good and godly husbandman if you cannot provide for your family. Infact, it nullifies your faith and the truth of Scriptures (1Tim.5:7-8). It is time to wake up and take up the challenge of all that the office of the husbandman demands. Secondly, you must engage the power of the Spirit of God to deal with fleshly tendencies such as sin, immorality, indiscipline, selfishness, laziness and excuses. After the Apostles received the baptism of the Holy Ghost in Acts chapter 2, they began to declare boldly the counsel and will of God to everyone. The Person of the Holy Spirit empowers for performance. Thirdly, you must never be satisfied with the now. In Amos 6:1, the word of God says, woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations to whom the house of Israel come. It is a dangerous thing to think you have arrived without any new goals, visions and purposes in view. For the Bible tells us that the path of the just man is like a shining light that shines brighter unto a perfect day (Pro.4:18).

And as you diligently work to become a responsible husbandman and leader in your family kingdom, God, your wife, children and men will honour you and you will become an example others want to follow.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every satanic force that wants to make me irresponsible.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, break the power of indolence and indiscipline in my life.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, build me up in honour and dignity amongst men.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have made up my mind to become the responsible leader to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
