Main Scriptures: Colossians 3:9
More Scriptures: Gen.2:24-25, Jas.16, 3Jn:8
Put away sin and its attraction. Let go of your sinful life and nature. This is the admonition to a husbandman reading this devotional today. And one of the deeds of the sinful nature that you must put away is to lying to your wife. As the good and godly husbandman, you must be truthful to her in all things including your journeys, finances, and business and in all matters.
From our Scripture reading today, the Word of God says, do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds (Col.3:9). As the head of the family, you owe your wife the duty of telling her the truth. If you are going to work, tell her you are going to work. If you travelling for an official assignment outside of town, tell her you will be out of town. If you are visiting a friend, tell her you are visiting a friend. If you have a property or building a house in any location or part of the world, let her know in totality.
For example, it is a dead trap to tell your wife that you are travelling out of town for business deals, when you are actually down town with a woman in a hotel room. Have you considered, what will happen to your family name if you get into trouble out of that unfaithful encounter? You may think that you are smarter. But hear what the Word of the Lord is saying to you, it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Lord, and he that breaks the hedge the serpent will bite (Heb.10:31). Many homes have disintegrated after the death of the husbandman because of the fact that certain information was hidden from the wife. If you read Gen.2 and the last verse, it says they became one flesh. This means there is a bond that exists between the husbandman and his wife. And it is this bond that creates the atmosphere of trust and the disclosure of information.
Make your life open to your wife. Make your life very transparent to your wife. Be who you are to her and what you say you are. Be truthful to her. It will not cost you anything but will provide the much needed safety you desire. Remember your perfect example, Jesus Christ. To outsiders, He spoke in parables but to His disciples, He reveal things to them by laying bare the truth.
