Bible Texts: Jn. 1:12-13, Jos.24:15, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:4-12, Gen.1:26, Gen.2:5, Pro.23:7
Few weeks ago, I was invited to a couple’s programme where I was privileged to anchor the breakout session for the male-man. All through the event and following the questions asked by the participants, it became very clear that the male-man is suffering from identity crises. He has not found himself and so he doesn’t know who he is, what he is called to do and how he is commanded to conduct himself as the good and godly husbandman. Every positive change in the life of the husbandman begins with the discovery of himself. That is what Jesus demonstrated in John chapter 1. You cannot act better than how much you have discovered of yourself from the Word of God, for as a man thinks, so he is (Pro.23:7).
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name, which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (Jn.1:12-13).
Jesus explains to you and I that we are born not of this world or the will of the flesh or man but of God. This means that you are from God and so you operate in the realm of where God is. So, if I am from God, then I am from above and I represent God in my home and my relationship with my wife and children. But before you know what God wants you to be to your wife and children, you must first know who you are. So, who am I?
Firstly, you are the man. And God said, let us make MAN in our image and after our likeness. (Gen1:26). You are the whole embodiment of the image of God and you look like Him. So, imagine for a moment what will happen if God is physically on ground in your sheepfold as the head? Your wife and children will experience joy, motivation, protection, provision, guidance and so much more. Secondly, you are the husband. And it is not good for the man to be alone, I will make for him a helpmeet (Gen.2:18). God made you the husband and wants you to succeed. This is why the Scripture say, husbands love thy wife as Christ has loved the church and gave himself for it (Eph.5:25). And if you want to really know the kind of love God commands you to extend to your wife, then study First Corinthians chapter 13 and verses 4-8.
Thirdly, you are the father. And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bare Cain and said, I have begotten a man FROM THE LORD. (Gen.4:1). You did not become a father by error. God made it possible for you to become a father for this simple reason. Fathers, nurture your children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). You are the father to your children and it is your covenant responsibility to teach, guide and motivate them to become all that God wants them to be on earth.
Get excited that you are a three-in-one personality-the good and godly man, husband and father and make it count positively in the lives of your wife, children and in the market place of life.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for thinking less of myself and for hurting my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to discover my worth in Your word and help me live by it.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to function as the good and godly man, husband and father to my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I walk in the reality of who God says I am, where He says I am from and what He says I am worth because that is my heritage as the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
