YOUR RIGHT STANDING IN MARRIAGE

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Gen.2:26, Eph.5:25, Is.37:35, 1Tim.3:1-4, Col.3:9, Rom.10:10, Matt.19:4-7, Acts 27:22-23, Mal.2:14, Mk.9:29, Heb.11:32, Lk.18:1

Before we start today’s devotional, it is very important for you to understand what marriage is from the perspective of the word of God. This understanding will destroy every false teaching and traditions that hitherto has held you captive to the rudiments of this world.

So, what is marriage? The marriage is a spiritual, covenant relationship and not a contract that once the job has been executed, the parties go their separate ways (Mal.2:14). Marriage is also not the idea of man, denomination or culture. So, man does not have the master plan in his hand. God has it because God made marriage. It was His idea and He is at the centre of it all. In Gen.2:15-18, the Scripture says, it is not good for man to be alone, let us make for him a helpmeet. There is a covenant relationship between you and God. Secondly, in Gen.2:24-26, the word of God says, for this reason shall a man leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. There is also a covenant relationship between you and your wife. So marriage is not in meat and drink. It is the greatest platform to practice the covenant.

Now, what role do you play as the godly husbandman in this spiritual covenant relationship?

First, as the good and godly husbandman, it is your principal responsibility to provide direction and influence for your wife and children (1Tim.3:3-5, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:7-10). There is just one head in the marriage relationship and that person is you. And by that position, you lead the way in your family kingdom. Secondly, you provide protection-spiritually and physically-for your wife and children. As long as Jesus Christ was with His disciples, nobody could hurt them, not even the Pharisees. When Apostle Paul was on a voyage with some people in the same boat, the storm came threatening to destroy both the passengers and the boat. But one man stood up and declared hope and safety for the people in the boat. His name was Apostle Paul (Acts.27:13-22). Thirdly, you are a recovery agent in your family kingdom (Gen.14:14-16). This means that you can recover and restore the health of your wife and children. You can restore the dignity of your wife and children.

But for you to function in these glorious responsibilities, you must contend in prayers and in the word (Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29, Heb.11:32). The forces of hell are bent on seeing that you do not function in the way God wants you to. So, you must not sit back and watch. The Scripture tells us that we must contend for the faith. You must fight the good fight of faith, not physically but spiritually. You don’t wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in high places. Furthermore, you must keep declaring the will of God over your life and the lives of your wife and children. You must not keep quiet. In Rom.10:10, the word says that with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Rom.10:10).

You have a glorious heritage as the godly man, husband and father. Make the most of it and give a very good account of yourself to God, your wife, children and the world so that they can glorify God who made you to lead as the head of your sheep and sheepfold (Matt.5:14-16).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to see the glorious heritage of being the godly husbandman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to contend for my position as the head of my family.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, guide me through Your word and let it gain root in my heart and bear fruits in my life.

FAITH CONFESSION

I receive the help of God to function triumphantly as the good and godly husbandman to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
