Spread the love

Bible Texts: 1Cor.13:4-7, 1Pet.3:7-9, Matt.6:12, Jn.3:16, 1Tim.2:2, Ps.51:11-12, Gen.1:26-28, Gal.4:19, Lk.18:1

Love is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs (1Cor.13:5) NIV.

One area you must be careful of in your journey to becoming the good and godly husbandman is offence. God doesn’t want you to keep records of wrongs beginning with the offences your wife and children may have committed against you. The reason is that you are made in the image and likeness of God (Gen.1:26-28). So, if God doesn’t keep records of your wrongs, why would you then keep records of others? It doesn’t fit you.

God has commanded you to love your wife and your children, and the love that God is talking about is the one which covers multitude of sin. Yes, it is true that your wife or children may have offended you several times over. It is also true that they continue to fall below your expectations. Irrespective of their shortcomings, God does not want you to open a register to record all their offences, whether in your heart or in a book. It isn’t God’s way but the devil’s trick to make you keep records of wrong of your wife and children.

Why is it dangerous to keep records of wrong? When you keep records of the wrongs of your wife and children, it breeds unforgiveness and hatred in your heart against them. It also makes you deal with them treacherously (Mal.2:14). Consequently, it hinders your prayers from being answered. The Scripture says ……that your prayers may not be hindered (1Pet.3:7b). This is not the will of God for you. Satan will do anything and everything to corrupt your spiritual life and he does that by ensuring that you live a life of offence. The aim is to disconnect you from power and person of Jesus Christ. If your prayers are not answered because you keep records of offences in your heart, is it worth it? The answer is no. God wants to answer your prayers. God wants to connect with you (Gen.3:4-6). God wants you to walk in love towards your wife and children because that is your access to a world of victory, righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.

But how do I overcome keeping records of the wrongs of my wife and children? First, you must adopt the principle of advance forgiveness. This means that you know and accept that your wife and children, including yourself make mistakes, and so you make room in your heart to forgive them ahead, should they offend you or make mistakes. In Matt.6, the Bible taught us how to pray. And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who trespass against us (Matt.6:12). When you pray this prayer, you have prepared the ground to learn to forgive your wife and children when they offend you. Secondly, you must be willing to teach them in love on how to do the right thing. In 1Tim.3:2 the Scripture tells us that one of the characteristics of the good and godly husbandman is the ability to teach others. You must uphold them in prayers and get relevant spiritual materials (book, tapes, and CDs) that will help them grow out of their errors and become good and godly wife and children (Gal.4:19).

Never give up on your wife and children. Don’t allow satan, sin and the world make you keep record of their wrongs. Your wife and children can be better than where they are. You, I mean you, can make it happen for them.

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, erase every record of wrong committed by my wife and children from my heart.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to forgive and not to record the wrongs of my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit in me

I have the mind of Christ and I am working in love toward my wife and children, overcoming bitterness and unforgiveness, because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen
