Bible Texts: Ps.133:1-3, Ps.122:3, Ecc.4:9, Mk.3:27, Eph.6:4, Eph.5:25, 1Cor.13:4-8, Ps.23:1, Heb.13:5, Rom.12:21, 2Cor.5:17
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. (Ps.133:1).
The will of God for you is to dwell in unity with your wife and children. God wants you to bond with them in the love of Christ. God wants you to protect your relationship with your wife and children from satan, sin and the world. God doesn’t want your sheepfold to scatter. Do you know why God wants you to dwell together in unity with your wife and children? It is because it is pleasant.
I challenge you to please re-read the main text of our study today, which is Ps.133:1-end. Staying away from your wife and children is not the will of God for you as the head of your sheepfold. God wants you to live with your wife joyfully. He doesn’t want you to manage your wife and children. God wants you to enjoy them. God desires a united family for you. Anything that wants to destroy the bond you have with your wife and children is of the devil. You must resist it. In Ps.122:3, the Scripture says that your family is like Jerusalem, compacted together. As the head of your family and the one with the leadership role, it is your God ordained responsibility to ensure that your family is bonded together in love and unity.
But how will you achieve this?
Firstly, you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by giving your life to Him and making Him your Lord and personal saviour. You must be born again (Jn.3:3-5). You need to be in Jesus Christ to reflect His nature of forgiveness, mercy, compassion, hope, faith and goodwill toward your wife and children. Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away, behold all things have become new (2Cor.5:17).
Secondly, you must learn to dwell with your wife and children in unity by resisting every temptation to be bitter toward them. Bitterness is a seed owned by the devil. He sows it into the lives of families to destroy the home. And the Bible regards it as a sin. Be not overcome with evil but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21). You can overcome bitterness by learning to forgive your wife and children when they offend you. And you can do this when you continue to see them from the eyes of Jesus Christ. Don’t forget that Jesus Christ loves us, notwithstanding our weaknesses and failures (Jn.3:16). And because you have His mind and nature, you can be like Him to your wife, children and home.
Thirdly, you must daily renew your mind with the word of God (Rom.12:1-3). What this means is that you must daily fill your mind with good thoughts about your wife and children. And you can achieve this when you remain focused on what God has said concerning them. In Matt.6:22, the Scripture says that, if your eyes be single, then your whole body will be full of light. It is when you focus on the positives in your wife and children that you see something good about them.
As you strive to dwell together with them in unity, you create a stronger force against the tricks of satan, sin and the world. You also attract the blessings of God upon your life and family.
