Bible Texts: Deut.6:1-9, Lk.18:1, Eph.6:4, Ps.78:4-6, Gen.18:19, 1Tim.3:2-5, Jos.24:15, Matt.5:14-16, Gen.12:2-3, Is.61:9
Let’s begin today’s teaching by asking this very important question. Who is responsible for nurturing the children? Is it the father or mother? The Bible has provided the answer.
And ye fathers, nurture thy children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4).
It is the father’s responsibility to nurture his children in the way and admonition of the Lord. This commandment is for any husbandman who wants to become the good and godly father. You must realize that your children are your seeds. They are your kind, just the same way every plant and animal produce after their kind. So, it is very necessary for you to appreciate that your greatest investment is the time you invest in your children to the extent that they walk in the way of the Lord. Joshua speaking declared boldly, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Jos.24:15). Can this be said concerning you and your children?
But what does it mean to nurture your children in the way and admonition of the Lord? It means teaching them from the word of God to do what is right and not what they like and becoming that example of Jesus Christ they have read about. It could be that moment at dinner or breakfast, on vacation with the family or at home during weekend or as you drive them to school, that you teach them how to live their lives to conform to what God commands. It is called quality time and you do not have any excuse to give for not having time to groom your children in the way and admonition of the Lord. The Scriptures say, and you shall whet and sharpen them so as to make and penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the minds and hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up (Deut.6:7). From this verse of Bible, you will notice that you have every opportunity to teach, guide, and direct your children in righteousness and godliness. And that is what God wants you to do so that it can be said concerning your children, this is the seed the Lord has blessed (Is.61:9).
As the head of the family and the father of your children, you must keep investing your time into the lives of your children. If you sincerely love your children, you must dedicate your time into their lives today so that they do not become a burden to you and bring you shame tomorrow (Jn.10:10).
Always remember this truth. The glory of your children is in your name. They bear your name, and that is what will forever remain the world’s reference point to your family and children.
