THE POWERFUL SPIRIT OF YOUR MOUTH

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 2Thess.2:7-8, Rom.10:10, Jn.6:63, Ps.51:10, Pro.18:21, Gen.1:1-3, Matt.5:14-15, Gen.1:26-28

And then shall that wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with THE SPIRIT OF HIS MOUTH  and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming (2Thess.2:8).

As I was studying the Bible, I came in contact with 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2 and verse 8. And suddenly the Spirit behind the word exploded in my spirit. I understood that my mouth is not just a part of my flesh or body, it is infact a spirit. And because I am like Christ to my wife and children (Matt.5:14-15), and I am made in the image and likeness of God (Gen.1:26-28), every word that comes out of my mouth is spirit and has life in it. I also understand that my words are not just mere words but are powerful instrument I can use to shape, rebuild, remold and reconstruct my life, and the destinies of my wife and children.

Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman said, the word that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life (Jn.6:63). The Bible also says in Romans chapter 10 and verse 10 that, with the heart man believeth but with the mouth confession is made into salvation (Rom.10:10). Again the Scripture in Proverbs says that the power of life and death is in the tongue. As the good and godly husbandman, you must be mindful of the words you speak to your life, wife and children, regardless of the pressure you may be in. You must exercise control over what you say, and discipline your tongue to only speak what God says.

But how do I restrain myself from misusing the spirit of my mouth and reordering it to speak life and not death, hope and not despair, faith and not fear? Firstly, you must be born again. This means that you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (Jn.3:3-5, 2Cor.5:17). Secondly, you must ask the Person of the Holy Spirit to guard and direct you in the things you hear, watch or read (Jn.14:26). This is because the totality of your life and conduct is formed from what you see, hear and watch. And this is why the Scripture admonishes us to “guard our hearts diligently, for out of it are the issues life”.

Secondly, you must plead the blood of Jesus Christ over your mouth regularly (Rev.12:10-12). Through the blood of Jesus Christ, your heart and tongue become sanctified to speak life. Thirdly, you must engage the twin weapon of prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29, Lk.18:1, Lk.10:19). David, the husband of Abigail, prayed to God for help concerning the thought of his heart and word of his mouth. He asked the Lord to, create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him (Ps.51:10). Fourthly, you must study, give attention and meditate on the word of God (Ps.1:1-3, Jos.1:6-8). You must work with the Person of the Holy Spirit to help you keep the word of God in your heart.

Your words are powerful seeds. They are spirit and full of life. Therefore, let the spirit of your words bear righteous fruits in your life and in the lives of your wife and children because that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, heal my mouth of wrong words.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the temptation of wrong speaking.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, order the thoughts of my heart and the words of my mouth aright.

FAITH CONFESSION:

The words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart are ordered rightly by the power of the Holy Spirit and I speak righteous words into my life and into the lives of my wife and children because that is my assurance of victory as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
