LIKE JESUS, EXERCISE DILIGENT CARE OVER GOD’S ASSETS

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Gen.2:14-17, Mal.2:14, 1Pet.3:7, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.3:1-6, Eph.5:25, Jn.10:10, Gen.12:1-3, Ps.23:2

Like Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, God wants you to exercise diligent care over His assets in your custody. And that assets are your wife and children. God requires this commitment from you as He did with the first husbandman, Adam.

AND THE LORD GOD TOOK THE MAN AND PUT HIM INTO THE GARDEN OF EDEN TO DRESS IT AND TO KEEP IT. And the Lord commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die. (Gen.2:15-17)

After God had invested so much to create a beautiful architectural masterpiece called the heaven and earth, He handed the earth over to the man and gave the custodian, Adam, clear instructions. He said to him, “dress and keep it”. In like manner, God has handed over your wife, children and home to you to dress and keep.

This is the lesson for you and I as godly husbandmen. God has handed over His sheep and sheepfold that is our wife and children to you and I. God has also provided clear instructions in His word on how to dress and keep them (1Cor.13:4-7, Eph.5:25-26, Eph.6:4). Your wife and children are precious in the sight of God, so you must see them in that light. God took His time to form your wife and children. He exercised diligent care and precision when He formed them.

Did you know the reason why you must dress and keep your wife and children, and sheepfold? It is because they are very good and precious in the sight of God. And He saw that everything that He has created was VERY GOOD (Gen.1:26-28). God did not give you a bad wife or wayward children. He gave you a very good wife and wonderful children (Is.1:18-19, Jn.3:27, Is.60:9). If there is anything bad about them, you are principally responsible for it. You cannot maltreat, disrespect and abuse your wife and children and expect to reap their loyalty, honour and respect. You cannot leave them to the influences to satan, sin and the world and expect them to be very good. You must uphold them in prayers and by the word of God for their establishment in righteousness and godly value (Jn.10:10, Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29).

So, how do I handle my wife and children with utmost care? The first step is for you to see them the same way God sees them. They are fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps.139:14). If you have the right perspective about them from God’s word, you will treat them with care, respect and dignity. Secondly, you must consciously fill your heart with good thoughts about them. This is because, from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Lk.6:45, Pro.23:7).

Are you ready to exercise utmost care in the way and manner you lead and treat your wife and children? I know you are eager. Start now!

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for maltreating my wife and children and please teach me how to exercise diligent care in handling them.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to honour my wife and children as You would.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me not to take Your grace and my leadership role for granted.

FAITH CONFESSION

From now on, I see my wife and children as God sees them and I exercise utmost care in handling them because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
