Bible Texts: Gen.2:14-17, Mal.2:14, 1Pet.3:7, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.3:1-6, Eph.5:25, Jn.10:10, Gen.12:1-3, Ps.23:2
AND THE LORD GOD TOOK THE MAN AND PUT HIM INTO THE GARDEN OF EDEN TO DRESS IT AND TO KEEP IT. And the Lord commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die. (Gen.2:15-17)
Yesterday, the grace and help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, we understood the importance of exercising diligent care over God’s assets in our custody. That is nurturing your wife and children. We also learnt that as the good and godly husbandman and the custodian of God’s asset, you and I will give account to God, who made the head and leader, of what we did with the assets He gave us. We also discovered some practical steps to take to enable us to remain responsible caretaker of God’s assets that is your wife, children and sheepfold.
Today, I want us to consider another important step to take in order to remain diligent caretaker of God’s assets in your custody. It is the attitude of humility. Humility is an attitude and is a spirit from God. Humility of heart empowers you to receive from God. Humility also enables you to accept your mistakes, turn away from it and make positive changes for the better. Humility is that attitude that makes you recognize that you can be corrected by your wife, children and those around you. God wants to teach you so many things that will help you function like the good and godly man, husband and father but if you are not humble enough, you will miss out on His instructions. This is why the word of God says that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
A life of humility will give you access to the wisdom of God that will enable you exercise care over your wife and children and treat them with respect. Humility also helps you to follow the instructions of God delightsomely, whether or not it makes sense. A lot of the times, the instructions God gives to you, particularly when it comes to your relationship with your wife and children, may not make logically sense. For example, take the instruction in Colossians chapter 3 and verse 19. It says, “husband love your wife and be not bitter against her. Now, how can you love your wife and not be bitter against her when she has just disrespected or abused you. Nevertheless, the word of God says, don’t be bitter against her but love her. It takes a heart of humility to obey this instruction and many more in the Bible.
But you must understand that the word of God is the guide you need to exercise diligent care in handling and caring for your wife and children. And humility of heart is the gate way to accessing the keys in the word of God that empowers you to dress and keep God’s assets in your care. Therefore, be humble in heart!
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, break every root of pride in my life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the Spirit of humility and help me to obey all Your instructions.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be a good caretaker of Your assets in my care.
FAITH CONFESSION
I walk in humbleness of heart and I give the word of God attention and allow it to guide my conduct and relationship with my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen. Amen.
