SEEKING TWO THINGS, FIRST, PLEASES GOD

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Matt.6:32-33, 1Sam.8:3, Eph.5:25, Ps.24:1-3, 1Cor.13:4-7, Ps.1:1-3, Rom.5:5, Philp.4:8, Eph.6:4, Jn.3:3-5, 2Cor.5:17

The focus of today’s teaching is on Matthew chapter 6 and verse 33. It is a very familiar Bible passage and many teachings have been done on the subject. But today, I want to give another perspective to it by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit. And the message is directed to husbandmen who are in ministry, i.e. pastors, evangelists, prophets and teachers of the word of God at any level.

For after all these things do the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS and all these things shall be added unto you (Matt.6:33)

As the husbandmen in ministry, God wants you and I to seek two things first-the good of His kingdom and the good of our wife and children by doing what is right from His word to them. God wants you and I to succeed both in our callings and families. God wants us to have the best of times with our wife, children and those around us.

Unfortunately, this has not been the case with many husbandmen in ministry. Many have succeeded in ministry but failed in the family life. Many more have become divorced, living with a bitter and hurting wife and contending with rebellious children. The reason why this is so is because many are busy seeking to build the ministry, expand the church network and reach out and bring many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, but neglecting the members of their family-wife and children (Eph.5:25, Eph.6:4).

As the man of God, there are two very important pursuits you must seek, first, if you want to enjoy the fullness of God’s blessings for your life as the good and godly husbandman. And that is what the word of God in Matthew chapter 6 and verse 33 talks about. You must make out time out of your busy schedules to demonstrate the love of Jesus to your wife. Pray for and with her. Take her on a vacation, if you have the financial resources. Always see her as your partner rather an enemy or a piece of furniture (Eph.5:25). You must also make out time to tend your children, pray for and with them, and teach them the Word of God. You must see them as assets that must be maximized rather than a burden on your ministry (Eph.6:4).

The Bible has this to say to every husbandman, who is a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work………one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity. For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?

You must seek the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit to balance kingdom assignment and family responsibility so that you will not be like Prophet Samuel who succeeded in ministry but failed in family (1Sam.8:1-5).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, by Your wisdom please help me to balance ministry assignment and family responsibilities.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to succeed as a minister and a family man.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to walk righteously with my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am succeeding in ministry and family life because I have the wisdom of God working inside of me as the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
