THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS

The same way you thirst after alcohol and other ungodly things, I want to encourage you to thirst after what is right.
As the head of the family, it is what you pursue that comes to you and your family. And it is what you thirst after that determines how much you are willing to give to quench the thirst. You must understand that the life of your wife and children are dependent on you. Your life also has a way of impacting on your wife and children, both in the way they conduct themselves. And to that extent you must pursue righteousness and live your life to please God in all things.
In Matt.5:6, the Scriptures say, blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled (Matt.5:6). You cannot be filled with the capacity to do what is right to your wife and children until you are helped by the Holy Spirit through your desperate desire in our heart to want to do good to them.
There are husbands who have taken their office as the head of the family casually and have become victims of divorce, separation and bitterness. Every day when you wake up, you must desire to abound unto good works.
In Is.51:1-2, the Word of God says,
Hearken to me, ye that FOLLOW AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS, ye that seek the Lord, look unto the rock whence ye are hewn and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. Look unto Abraham your father and unto Sarah that bare you…….(Is.51:1-2).
Abraham was a husband like you and I. But one thing that distinguishes him is his righteous walk with God (Gen.18:19). And by redemption you and I have become the seeds of Abraham (Gal.3:10-13). Your hallmark as the head of your family is holiness and righteousness. Therefore, as the leader of your home, you cannot sacrifice your wife and children at the expense of the temporary pleasures of this world.
But how do I thirst after what is right as the leader in my home?
You thirst after righteousness by being honest before God; telling Him those areas of your life that you are struggling with. It may be that you are struggling sexual immorality, anger, pride, bitterness, stealing, envy, addiction to alcohol and much more (Matt.11:28-30). It is only when you sincerely come to God for help that He will show you mercy and extend help to you to live a righteous life that will impact on your wife and children, positively.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, by Your blood, wash me clean from every form of filthiness and unrighteousness.
- Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from the power of sin.
- Father, by Your Spirit, pour upon me the spirit of holiness and empower me to walk in that light.
FAITH CONFESSION
I seek after what is right towards God, my wife and children at all times because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
