SETTING A RIGHTEOUS PATTERN

Bible Texts: 1Tim.1:15-16, Dan.1:8, Jn.3:3, Gal.4:19, Matt.5:14-16, Eph.5:25, Col.3:19, Rom.12:21

Let me begin by saying that you are representing Jesus Christ to your wife, children and the world. Therefore, you have the power to influence your wife and children in the direction they should go. Most importantly, your wife and children will do what they see you do more than what you say and claim to say. So, if your wife and children are doing exactly the opposite of what is good and godly, then examine your life to see what pattern you have provided for them. That is what the Scripture in 1Timothy 1 tries to communicate to you.

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all long-suffering, FOR A PATTERN TO THEM WHICH SHOULD HEREAFTER BELIEVE ON HIM TO LIFE EVERLASTING (1Tim.1:15-16)

As the good and godly husbandman, you are the leading light in your sheepfold. You are Christ’s ambassador to your wife and children. God has a pattern that He wants you to show to them and that He has laid for you in His word-the Bible. The Bible provides you with the template on how you are expected to relate with your wife and children as the good and godly man, husband and father. So, do you know God’s pattern for your life as the husbandman? Have you lived the good and godly pattern for your wife and children? And are your sheep (wife and children) following after the pattern of God that you already have?

However, for you to be able to set a good and godly pattern and be like Christ, you must  acknowledge Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. In Jn.3:3, the Scripture has this to say. Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (Jn.3:3). You have to consciously and deliberately invite Jesus into your life and ask Him to take charge of your life (2Cor.5:17).

Secondly, you must work out your salvation with fear and trembling. This requires you to make out time to study your Bible, pray the instructions the Holy Spirit will be communicating to you and personally think and do what the word of God says. Daniel in Daniel chapter 1 intentionally chose to do what is right. But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the kings’ meat, nor with the wine which he drank….. (Dan.1:8).

Finally, you must daily contend in prayers coupled with fasting until the nature of Christ is formed in you, I travailed in birth until Christ is formed in you (Gal.4:19).

So, if you want to become the good and godly husbandman, you must set godly patterns from the word of God and practice them with joy and delight.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me Your ways and help me to live through them.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live above the flesh and help me to live by the Spirit.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a godly pattern for my wife and children and the world.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a worthy ambassador of Jesus Christ to my wife, children and the world because I have set a godly pattern after the word of God thereby making me function as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
