As husbandman, who wants to become good and godly, what do you think God wants from you? Is it your fame, fortune or prestige? Thank God the Bible has provided the answer in Proverbs chapter 23.
My son, give me thine heart and let thine eyes observe my ways (Pr.23:26)
God is as interested in your heart as He is in your finances, character, charisma, conduct and reputation. God wants you to give Him your heart because the quality of your heart influences the quality of your conversation and relationship with your wife and children. So if your heart is right, your conduct will also be right because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
As the husbandman, you must realize that many of the challenges and struggles that you are having in your life and with your wife and children starts with the information your heart has received and accepted. For instance, you did not just wake up to be bitter against your wife and children nor did you become adulterous suddenly or an irresponsible shepherd. The totality of your action, whether good or bad is as a result of the state of your heart. Read what Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman says.
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things that defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands defileth not a man (Matt.15:18-20).
God wants your heart so that He can feed it with graceful seeds that will mould you to have self control over your emotions. God wants your heart so that He can whisper to you His wisdom on how to respond to your wife and children without cracking the wall of the sheepfold. God wants your heart so that He can clean you up from every form of filthiness because you have His mind.
However, for you to give your heart to God, you must accept that your heart needs help. You must recognize that God will not force Himself on you. If thou be willing and obedient, thou shalt eat the fruit of the land. When Jesus met with the man who needed healing, He asked Him, “do you believe that I can heal you?” And the man agreed with Jesus that He can heal him so he responded, “yes Lord”. You must recognize that God wants the best for you, and so giving Him your heart and allowing Him to have His way will be your joy. My thoughts toward you are good and not evil to give you a hope and a future (Jer.29:11).
As the husbandman, you cannot be better than the quality of what is in your heart. So, as you give God your heart, He will help you to reorder your thoughts, words, actions and conduct to make them fit for yourself and for the good of your wife and children thereby making you the good and godly husbandman, bringing glory and praise to Jesus Christ.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for not giving You the rightful place in my life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, I give You my heart and invite You to be the Lord of my life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be the good and godly example to You and to my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give my heart to Jesus so that He can be Lord over my life because I want my thought, will, emotion, conduct and responses to reflect the true nature of the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
