One of the principal responsibilities you and I have towards our wife and children is to pray for them. That is interceding for them. This is because prayer is the weapon you have to shield and secure your wife and children from the influences of satan, sin and the world. Do not believe the lie that your wife and children will turn out to become whom God wants them to be. You must travail in prayers until Christ is formed in them (Gal.4:19).
Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman gives you and I an example to follow, praying for our sheep.
I pray for them. I pray not for the world but for them which thou hast given me, for they are mine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them (Jn.17:9-10).
Jesus prayed for his disciples and they become empowered to continue the assignment as evidenced in Acts of the Apostles. As the good and godly husbandman, you owe your wife and children the duty to always pray for them. God wants you to schedule your prayer time to include issues that concern your wife and children. God wants you to bring to Him the challenges you may be having with your wife and children because He wants to help and has plans for you to enjoy your relationship with them.
But what are the areas God wants you to focus your prayers for your wife and children?
God wants you to pray for their spiritual life so that they will be filled with the fear of the Lord which will make them love God and do only those things that please Him whether anyone is watching them or not. God also wants you to pray for their physical well-being. This covers their health, education, career, business and all other pursuits. God wants you to pray for their emotional well-being too. God wants you to pray for them so that they find and build healthy, godly and goodly relationships, be above any form of peer pressure and remain stable in their thoughts and conduct.
As the good and godly husbandman, I pray regularly for my wife and children. Whether I am driving, eating or walking. And I am seeing the results in every way and to God alone I give all the glory and praise.
Just like Jesus Christ said that the disciples are His, so is your wife and children. They are yours. God gave them to you so that through you He can mould them to become all that He plans for them. And your intercession is the platform to make that happen. Are ready to pray for them?
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, anoint me with fresh oil to be an intercessor for my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me by Your Spirit to function in my office as the good and godly husbandman.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, answer me when I call on You on behalf of my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
My wife and children are mine and God has empowered me to pray for them until Christ is formed in them because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
