Bible Texts: Pro.10:11, 2Tim.2:15, Matt.12:37, 2Tim.1:13, Matt.5:14-16, Rom.10:10, Philp.4:8, Ps.138:2, Jn.6:63, Col.3:16, Eph.4:26, 1Cor.9:27
The perfect will of God for the husbandman is to grow and develop into the good and godly shepherd. God wants the husbandman to have a goodly relationship with his wife, children and become a representative of Jesus Christ at home and in the market place. And one of the ways the husbandman can proof that he is an ambassador of Christ and the good and godly representative of God to his wife, children and in the market place is by the words that he speaks. So the question you must consider today and answer is this. How rich and healthy are your words toward your wife, children and people around you?
Read this Scripture and meditate on it.
The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain, the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions (Pro.10:11). NLT
The word of God says that godly words are life-giving fountain. That means the word of God gives life. This is so important because as the head of the family, the words you speak in the direction of your wife and children can either lift them up or destroy them (Pro.6:2) Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman reaffirms how powerful words are.
The words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life (Jn.6:63).
As the good and godly husbandman, you must be very careful what you say. If you have observed the way of the herdsmen leading their flock, you will notice that they use their voice to communicate to their herd. It is true that your wife or children may offend you. It may also be true that they are living below your expectation. Notwithstanding all their obvious weaknesses, please order your words aright and speak life-giving words to them.
But for you to speak life-giving and not deadly words to your wife and children, you must give attention to the study of the word of God, your Bible (2Tim.2:15). And as you study and think on the word, you build up abundance of the word of God in your heart and that will influence what you say with your mouth (Rom.10:10, Philp.4:8). The Bible has this to say about it. Let the word of God dwell richly in you (Col.3:16). And according to the word of God, you speak out of the abundance of the deposit of the word of God in your heart. The more you feed and fill your heart with the word of God, the more your mouth speaks life-giving words.
You must also engage the weapon of prayer to bring your body, including your tongue under control. Prayer is not just a platform for you to ask the Lord for material blessings. You can also ask for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit upon your life to help you to tame your tongue (1Cor.9:27, Mk.9:29, Matt.7:7). The word of God warns that we should not allow anger to lead us to sin (Eph.4:26). Self control is one of the virtues of the Holy Spirit, so you need so much of it at work in your life as the leader of your wife and children.
And what happens when you speak life – giving words to your wife and children? Firstly, you engender hope and confidence in them. Secondly, you serve as the pillar they can rely on. Thirdly, they will give you peace of mind and you will find rest to your spirit, soul and body.
You are a life-given agent. Speak life-giving words. It is the hallmark of the good and godly husbandman.
