SNAPSHOTS OF THE GODLY HUSBANDMAN (1)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 2Tim.2:2-26, Acts 1:1, 1Tim.3:2, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:6-7, Eph.5:25-28, Jn.6:63, Jn.5:39, Ps.1:1-2, Jos.1:6-8, Jas.1:23-25

Yesterday, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, you and I understood that the perfect will of God for us is to grow and develop into the good and godly shepherd. And that God wants our relationships with Him, our wife, children and in the marketplace to reflect the nature and conduct of good and godliness.

Today and in the next few days, you and I will be learning about the portraits of the godly husbandman. We will be exploring the various attributes of the husbandman. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that the lessons learnt will gain roots in your life and bear good and godly fruits in your thoughts, reactions, conduct and relationships.

The first snapshot in the portrait of the husbandman is a teacher. Who is a teacher and what does it amount to? A teacher teaches and transfers knowledge in order to make the students better. A teacher is a productive leader because he produces students who eventually become value-added to themselves and to the society they belong. That is who you are.

In 1Timothy chapter 2, the Scripture mentions the ability to teach as one of the important characteristics of the husbandman.

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, ABLE TO TEACH….(1Tim.3:2).

As the husbandman, one of the responsibilities that define your leadership role as lead your life, wife and children is you ability to teach them. This means that you must give yourself to learning so that you can also transfer the knowledge to them. Study to show thyself approved as a workman who is not ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth (2Tim.2:15).

But what do I teach and how do I teach? As the leader in the home, you teach your wife and children the word of God. And this begins with you having your personal Bible, giving yourself to studying the word of God and other godly and anointed materials. You are your wife and children first pastor. You are their first teacher. The foundation of their lives as vessels of honour begins with what you teach them at home. And you teach them in two ways.

The first is by having time where you gather your wife and children, especially Bible study time to explain the word of truth to them. The second is by your conduct. It is often said that action speaks louder than words. The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach (Acts 1:1). You must not only teach, you must do what you teach.

Are you not happy that God has made you the first teacher of your wife and children? I know you are. Therefore, make it count in the lives of your wife and children and be rewarded by God.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the spirit to study your word continuously.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the teaching grace so that I can teach my wife and children Your word in love.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be not just a teacher of Your word but also a doer.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give myself to the study of the Bible to learn and to teach my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
