SNAPSHOTS OF THE GODLY HUSBANDMAN (2)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 2Tim.2:2-26, Acts 1:1, Rom.12:1-2, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:6-7, Eph.5:25-28, Jn.6:63, Gal.2:13, Ps.1:1-2, Jos.1:6-8, 2Cor.5:17, Rom.6:1-2

Yesterday, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, we took the first snap shot that will help us build the portrait of the good and godly husbandman. And we establish that the husbandman who wants to become good and godly must be a teacher. He must not only be productive, he must be the product in thoughts, words and in conduct.

Today, let us take another snapshot. It is the snapshot of a soldier. One of the most important attributes of a good soldier is loyalty. A good soldier is loyal to his command-in-chief, his nation and those he is leading, too. This explains why in most cases where unfaithfulness or treason is established against a soldier, the penalty is death or a very long jail term.

And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ (2Tim.2:2-3).

The husbandman is a soldier. And what makes you the good and godly husbandman is your loyalty to God, your wife, children, your nation, employer, and in all your pursuits. God wants you to be faithful to Him. God wants you to be faithful to your wife and children. God wants you to be faithful in the marketplace of life. There is no doubt that temptation that may want you to be unfaithful to God, your wife, children and in the marketplace will come to you. But you must always remember that you are the good soldier who is faithful, loyal and honest to serve God and the interests of your wife and children.

So, how do I then become the good soldier?

Firstly, you must have a personal relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. And this you will do by coming to God, repenting of all your sins and asking Him to forgive you. Then you invite Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and personal saviour (2Cor.5:17, Rom.6:1-3).

Secondly, you must feed on the words of Jesus Christ as contained in the Bible by studying, thinking on the word until it becomes real to you. Study to show thyself approved as a workman who is not ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth (2Tim.2:15). One of the benefits of studying and believing the word of God is that it helps you to renew your mind, which is the seat of your will and decision. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies as a living sacrifice, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Rom.12:1-2).

Thirdly, you must be humble to allow the instructions and commandments from the Scriptures to take preeminence in what you allow into your thought and the decision you take. A lot of the times, the ways of God are not the ways of man. But God’s wisdom always prevails. You must be ruled by what God says and not what the world says or your body feels. I bring my body under subjection..(1Cor.9:27)

Finally, you must engage the weapon of prayer and fasting in order to secure the help of God to be faithful and loyal (Mk.9:29). For it is God who works in you both to will and to do his good pleasure (Philp.2:13). You cannot become the good soldier by your own strength. You need the empowerment of the Holy Ghost to be and remain faithful.

You are the good soldier. March on!
