Bible Texts: Lk.19:11-26, Philp.2:13, Ps.24:1, 2Tim.2:15, Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29, 1Pet.3:7-9, Epg.6:4, Col.3:19, Jn.3:29, Gen.22:18
Today’s teaching topic is from Luke Gospel chapter 19 verses 11 through to 26. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, told a story about a landowner who gave three men some money to manage. Each of the men was expected to invest and grow the money given to them because they must account to the landowner of their stewardship of the resource given to them by the landowner. When the landowner returned, they all appeared before him to give their reports. The landowner rewarded the three managers based on their outcome or results. While the first and second managers made profit from the money given to them, the third did not. So, the landowner called the first and second managers wise men and the third manager a wicked man.
What is the lesson you and I can learn from this story?
The first lesson for you and I as husbandmen is that our wife and children as well as well other material and financial assets are resources God owns. You don’t own anything. God owns everything. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness therefore, the world and they that dwell therein (Ps.24:1).
The second lesson is that we all stewards and we are accountable to God, our Master, through Jesus Christ. No one receives anything except it be given to him by God (Jn.3:27). Your wife, children, position, power, finance and everything you have has been given to you by God and you are to act as the good steward.
Therefore, God demands that you grow your wife and children by making their lives better. God wants you to make their lives profitable unto Him and to the world. God wants you to turn their lives into vessels of honour, glory and beauty. I will make you a blessing and through you shall the families of the earth be blessed (Gen.22:18).
There are two wisdom keys to becoming a good broker of God’s resources in your custody. The first is knowledge. You must seek to know from God’s word about your wife and children and why God gave them to you. Study to show thyself approved as a workman who is not ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth (2Tim.2:15). The second wisdom key is prayer. Prayer is an indispensable weapon of warfare in your quest to becoming the good and godly manager. Prayer connects you to the power from God that empowers you to do the perfect will of God. It is God who worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure (Philp.2:13).
God trusts you and has entrusted His resources (your wife and children) into your care. You must prove to God and to your wife and children that you are a good manager of His assets.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes as I study to know Your perfect will for my life, wife and children
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me by Your word to lead my life, wife and children.
- Father, in the name of Jesus, make me a good and profitable manager of Your resources in my care.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am a steward of God’s resources and I work to make the resources in my care bigger and better because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
